Ryder Jones
Once Tyler fell onto the ground, yelling her name, I push Caleb to the side and rush to her. She was way beyond passed out. Her body laid there, eyes closed, hair all over the place. I held onto her, but was ripped apart when two strong men picked me up putting my hands behind my back. Damn I'm being arrested. Great, this is the last thing I wanted prove to both Tyler and my mom that I can change. The heavy cop recited my Miranda rights, pulling me to his car. Walking to the car, my head hung low avoiding eye contact from anyone. Instead of avoiding people, my presence seemed to drawn people. With flashing lights blinding my vision and the whispers that followed behind me. There was no way this is ever going to die. It's going to be all over the Milton's Daily News tomorrow, captioning: Has Aaron Jones Son Gone Wild?
I'll be the laughing stock this whole week, and I could've ruined my mom's opportunity to get the promotion she worked so hard for. I'm so selfish and stupid. I should've not let Caleb get to me. But the way he forced her, and the pleading look in her eyes told too much. I couldn't bear to see it all. Hell, I don't even know why I stood to watch all those men kiss her. I resisted so much to not grab her gentle face and kiss the hell out of her. But I know I would risk too much if I did. Each day I'm with this girl my feelings for her grow stronger and stronger. Every minute I'm not with her, she is the only person running through my mind.
"Duck your head, son," the heavy officer spoke softly.
Responding to the officer, I do what I'm told and sit in the back seat of the car while he spoke into his radio. The reporters and crowds that were gossiping were still in the area and kept shooting every footage to have a story for tomorrow morning. I look straight ahead through the windshield and spot my mother flagging down the officer who arrested me.
My mother spoke to him, to which I'm guessing to let me go but he shook his head and his lips were moving to fast for me to understand. To "convince" the officer, my mother searched the area for any reporters or any witnesses, she takes out a hundred dollar bill and "shakes" his hand. The officer then nods his head and makes his way to his car.
I hate the fact my mother had to buy her way to get what she wants. It's not fair, and now with my actions she'll know that can't make it on my own. And if a reporter caught her, not only will she lose her job but also can get arrested. I take my mother for granted too much, she does so much for me and this is how I show my gratitude. I'm such a disappointment. To my whole family.
The officer opens the car door, "you're free to go son."
I squirm my way out and face my back to him so he can take off the handcuffs. Adjusting my wrists and about the walk off, the cop stops me in my tracks, "kid, try to stay away from trouble. Your mother will do anything for you, maybe you should show her the same affection she's been giving you. I don't want to see you in a police car again. Okay?"
I narrow my eyes at him. Who is he to judge? He barely knows me. He doesn't know what I've been through, the shit I have to take. The challenges and problems I've struggled but overcame. Then again, he just another person looking out for me. Wanting me to do good in life and not rot in a cell or attending my funeral.
Changing my expression, I slightly smile and nod, understanding what he's saying to me. After I was let go, my mother spotted me and walked with a sour face. Uh-oh, this isn't going to be good.
As she was making her way here, she wasn't the only one who saw my presence. Before she can reach me in time, the local reporters all accompanied me and started interrogating me with questions.
"What happened to your father, Aaron Jones?" One reporter shouted.
"Why did the officer let you go?" Another called out.
"Why would you punch your girlfriend in the stomach?"
After hearing that question, a bunch of murmurs and whispers arose in the group that surrounded me. I looked at the middle aged average man who last shouted and eagerly pointed his microphone in front of my face. I would never hurt Tyler, let alone physically.
Sucking a breath, I turn around to ignore the cameras and push through the crowd to Tyler.
