Chapter 5: Goodbye

I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket. I pick it up.

"Hello?"

It was Mrs Merrell.

"Darling, Autumn, I need you. We need you,"

"What's wrong?"

"Veronica"

"I'm on my way,"

I barged into the Merrell's house.

"Mr and Mrs Merrell? Veronica? Where are you guys?"

I ran upstairs and barge into Veronica's and Vanessa's room. No sign of humans. I ran up more flights of stairs, to the roof.

"Oh my gosh! Autumn. You need to help her. We've lost one and we don't want to lose another. You're her only hope. She won't listen to us," Mrs Merrell squealed through her crying.

I nodded and faced to my right.
It was Veronica at the edge of the roof.

"Roni.. You don't have to do this..." I spoke gently.

She replied me with loud crying, "I mean what else am I going to do? I have no purpose to live anymore. I want to join Nessa up there," she pointed at the sky.

"Roni, you can when the time comes. But right now, realise that you have not only your mom and dad but you have me,"

More loud sobs.

"I just want to meet Nessa!" she yelled at me, close to disturb the neighbours. "and you can not stop me.."

She looked at her parents, "None of you either!"

She looked back down to her backyard.

"Bury me right next to Nessa. Goodbye,"

That's when I heard a loud and fast stomping up the stairs. It was a girl. I can't seem to see her face due to her long hair all over her face.

"Roni! No! Stop! Don't!"

Veronica turned around and spoke in a shaky voice, "Nessa?"
