Don't You Remember

Thomas' POV:

"Ty, are you sure about this I mean it is your soul after all?"

He shrugged. Wow way to be noncommittal. He really did care I can read him really easily. He shifted his weight and stared above me. I opened my arms up. He came flying in for a hug. I could feel something now that I mus have never noticed before. I can feel his heartbeat, not hear but I can feel it beating. "You are so close Thomas, but that is not how you enter a soul"I jumped at the doctors voice. "you can feel his heart but you will need to do one more thing to enter his soul."

He stopped talking and smiled at me. We all stood there silently. Ty looked down at me then back to the doctor. "So uh ... are you going to tell us what he has to do or?"

The doctor simply laughed and stood in his place still refusing to tell us what it is. What do I have to do? For Pete's sake I've been waiting to do this for almost 24 hours. "I'm glad you finally asked Thomas." his Italian seeming extra thick today "you simply have to ask permission. You don't even need to get a yes you just have to ask"

Really now? I have to ask permission and it doesn't matter if I get a yes or a no I just go in anyway. That feels rather ... invasive. "Ty, do I have permission to enter your soul?"

He smiled at me politely "have I ever said no to anything you wanted?"

I close my eyes. All I know right now is I can feel his heart beating. When I open my eyes I'm in a vibrant town square. I was standing in the middle of a plaza that's filled with shops and cafe's and trees. Oh it's wonderful. There is red stone paths cutting through the grey concrete. There's nobody to be seen except one boy. I wonder who that could be? Pulling out the seat across from him I sat down. "I remember this town it's been forever since I've been here I think the last time was the day we met isn't that right, Ty?"

He smiled at me. "Well what can I say I only grew up here for 12 years"

We laughed. The entire area was beautiful. Eventually the sky changed from day to night. We began to walk around. He lead me around the town. I stopped in the the bathroom at one of the shops. I went in the wrong door first and found a little room full of pictures of us. Creepy, yes. Stalker-ish, yes. Kinda weirdly endearing, also yes. I went to the bathroom and when I came out I found him still wandering around the store. "So creepy room full of pictures of us?"

He turned bright red and looked over my head again. "Uh ... funny you mention that ... its um ... well you see ... its like this I put the memories of us being together in there because it made me feel bad every time I'd go to my happy place and remember that we broke up. You were the first person I dated, you were my first kiss, and you were the one who saved my life."

I don't recall saving any lives anytime in the past ... ever. I tilted my head. Sighing he took my hand and lead me to a massive lake surrounded by trees. There was a small dock that jutted out into the lake. He smiled "remember this is where we first met? You saved my life here" I shook my head confused. I remember meeting him here on a mission. He pointed at the dock frustrated "don't you remember you came here to escort me to a plane."

That's all I remember though. Abruptly, the lake lights up showing what he remembers happening. Both of us were only 12 at the time. He was sitting at the end of the dock his feet hanging into the water lightly kicking. I came out and sat next to him. "You still have all of tonight don't you have anyone in particular you want to say goodbye to? I mean you seemed pretty popular at your going away party." He looked up at me with a blank expression his short blonde hair in a buzz-cut. He shook his head. "Well then I'm going to stay here with you until its time for us to leave. I mean it isn't often we get sent out to pick someone up."

He rolled his eyes and thanked me. We sat in silence for a while just sitting lightly moving our feet in the water. He finally broke the silence "you know they say there is a lake monster that blesses people who can summon them?"

I laughed "Well the only monster you need to worry about is that freak coming after you"

Ty grabbed my hand lightly "I'd rather take my chances with the lake monster that my uncle any day of the week." Smiling at him I undressed to just my underpants and slipped into the water. "What are you doing?"

Looking back at him. I retorted "I'll find the lake monster and maybe you'll reconsider"

He undressed and hopped in after me. We swam for what seemed like hours. laughing, joking, and splashing each other. Until I noticed someone on the shore farthest from us. It was hard to make out but Ty knew who it was and he started screaming. That's when a thin line of the lake froze in between us. I climbed over to the same side as him and covered him as we moved toward shore. He got my arm it may be more buoyant but you can't move your arm. I somehow managed to flounder my way to the dock.

He grabbed our clothes and we ran. I was sent on the mission with two adults it was only like my third mission. I was with a healer and a human shield. When we got back to Ty's home his sister poured hot water on my arm. It was mostly defrosted until the front door shattered and it was frozen one more time. "I'm getting really sick of this guy"

Ty's uncle was a short muscular man with ice powers (if you haven't noticed). He froze everyone to the floor except me because you know frozen arm ... very heavy. He walked over to Ty. He formed a gun with his fingers and I could see an icicle forming at the end of his fingers. I don't know what came over me but suddenly I lunged at him smacking him in the head with my ice cube arm. "Really shouldn't freeze my arm and not my feet I will always find a way to get you got it."

Using my still frozen arm I smashed the ice on everyone's feet. We managed to get my arm unfrozen and tie him up.

I looked up from the lake. "Hm, I don't seem to recall that, but knowing the school we go to there is a large chance it happened though. Honestly, you've saved my life more times than I can count. Ty the fact that you remember all of this is kinda sweet and creepy but still sweet"

We moved closer to each other. He leaned in and I stopped him when he tried to kissed me. I missed his kiss. He had a passion that Steven just didn't have. I pull away first "I think it's time I call Steven and break up with him. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow depending on what time it is when we get out of here"

With that we were suddenly back in the hospital hugging each other. No time had passed. He poked my nose. "what was that for?"

He laughed "just had to make sure you made it back alright"

I rolled my eyes at him. Stepping back I pulled out my phone. "I think I'm gonna go meet Steven and tell him I'll be back soon. Hopefully he'll understand, although I really doubt it."

He hugged me one more time before he let me walk out. Steven didn't take it well. We met in public so he wouldn't do exactly what he did. He started started spitting at me. He spits fire. When I walked back into the hospital all of my clothes were singed and I was covered in soot. Ty laughed at my ashy appearance. "So it didn't go well I'm guessing?"

I glared at him. "The guards were called apparently they issued an instant restraining order." He opened his mouth to ask something "before you ask we both have to wear these bracelets that'll shock Steven if he comes within 20 feet of me or if he uses his fire breath within 50 feet of me. Apparently I'm no longer considered safe because of the freak-out he had. Now if you'll excuse me I need to take a shower."
