When I stepped into the house, Mum was already asking me questions."Who's that boy Michelle?" she asked, giving away her excitement. I groaned. Simply because I do not have a social life, or a boyfriend, Mum is getting over-enthusiastic.
She says I should open up more and give it a try, like all my 'other peers'.
However, it is simply my personality that makes me single. Although I have crushes, I'm not ready for relationships.
Right now, I didn't need Mum to know of my longtime crush.
"Oh, just my friend in school. Cal and Nicole were busy, and he offered to drive me home. Yeah. That's it." I ran up before she could further interrogate me and decided to hide inside there.
"It's okay if you don't want to tell me then, but I must tell you it's time for dinner! Get down now!" I heard her voice from downstairs.
Thank you Mum, for knowing me so well. Saves all the unnecessary trouble, in my opinion.
I changed out of my clothes before dashing down the stairs. I am famished.
---
Mum cooked roast pork today. My favourite dish.
The aroma wafted to my nose even from the living room. I licked my lips greedily.
If you know me well, you will understand how big an eater I can be.
I once ate a whole roast chicken. No kidding.
Chris, my brother, was already on the dinner table, playing with his smartphone, waiting expectedly for the food.
I shook my head.
This person was already 19, for crying out loud, yet he still behaves exactly like a preschool kid.
"Chris, that's my seat." I sounded slightly annoyed.
"No don't disturb me, I'm still playing my game!" He cried out, as I heard swishing sounds coming from his fighting game. I shook my head again, taking a seat next to him.
I am going to be nice today.
"Dad." I called out. He nodded, going to the sink to wash his hands.
Dad just came back from the office, still in his suit and favourite red tie.
"How was work today, dear?" Mum asked from across the kitchen.
Dad and Chris were uncanny, with similar green eyes and a sharp angular face. Chris towered over Dad, but they were equally tan.
Mum and I were similar in that aspect then, with pure brown irises and around the same height.
"It was great, I managed to clinch a major deal today yada yada yada–"
I stopped listening to their boring conversation and focused on Mum as she placed the steaming mashed potatoes on the dinner table.
Smells so good.
"Let's eat!" Mum declared and we echoed after her.
Using my fork, I hastily grabbed some food and stuffed it in my mouth.
Then, I heard the buzzing sound of my phone. I didn't think much about it.
