Everything is dark, I call out but there is no answer.
"Where am I?"
I look around and see nothing, hear nothing, feel nothing. Everything seems familiar, but unknown at the same time. All I can remember is my name and age. Emory Havlock, 14 years old. I suddenly feel as if I am falling, the wind blowing against my back. I stop abruptly and everything goes still again. I breathe calmly and the feeling of being alone grows. I start falling again, my arms and legs seemingly flailing against the wind. I stop again.
A feminine voice echo's in my head.
"I wonder if he's alive"
Then another voice.
"We should leave him, he could bring us trouble"
The sound of rope being cut fills my mind.
"We are taking him, we don't know what could happen if we leave him"
"Ugh, your too soft Caitlyn"
"Oh shut it Janet" Caitlyn exasperates.
"Hey, you ok?" Caitlyn whispers into my ear.
I try to speak but all I can manage is a groan.
"Well he's not dead" Jannet sighs.
"Could you care about another living person for once?" Caitlyn yells.
A crackling growl echos from my right.
"Caitlyn, one of them is close" Janet whispers worriedly.
"Yeah, I know, let's just cut him down and get him back to our camp" Caitlyn whispers and suddenly I fall into someone's arms and there's a semi soft snap as the rest of the rope is cut.
Two pairs of arms hold me, one on my legs and the other on my torso.
"God he's heavy" Janet complains.
"Look who's talking" Caitlyn giggles mischievously.
A little while later they drop me on a cushioned surface.
"Okay, now what are we gonna to with him Caitlyn?" Janet sighs, obviously upset that she had to carry me.
"We wait for him to wake up" Caitlyn sighs.
"But what if he's one of them? What if he works for them?" Janet says worried.
"You of all people should know they wouldn't treat their soldiers like that, look at all the cuts he has and the bruises. He didn't come from them either, otherwise he'd be dead" Caitlyn says a little annoyed.
"Fine, but if he kills us both, I told you so" Janet giggles a little and they both burst out laughing.
I slowly sit up and hold my head.
"W-what happened?" I look at both of you, finally seeing what they look like.
Caitlyn is a around 5'6" with long brown hair and hazel eyes, not very fat but not to skinny either, just about the normal of girls.
Janet looks to be 5'10" with shoulder length black hair and brown eyes. She is skinnier then Caitlyn but still has meat in her bones.
"We found you hanging from a rope and you were unconscious" Janet instantly responds coldly.
"We cut you down and brought you back, and Janet please try to be a little nicer to our guest" Caitlyn scolds her.
Janet rolls her eyes and walks away with her arms crossed.
"Where am I?" I look at Caitlyn.
"Your in the wastes, the rotten, crumbling underside of earths crust. The only safe place on earth after the disaster" Caitlyn walks over and sits by me.
"What disaster?" I look at her confused.
"Well, first the drought came, then the famine, after that there were constant natural disasters and then the sun flares burst out and raged upon earth, scorching everything above. Many were killed but the ones who did survive found this place, but living here had consequences, there are creatures that we know nothing about down here" She looks back at me. "Most of them are carnivores"
I nod and look around, looking at the place we're in. There is a fireplace in the corner with a soft fire growing inside, and lanterns through out the place. Plenty of cans are in plain sight along with plastic silverware.
Suddenly there is a loud screech from outside, a little ways away but still close.
