There he was, lying in front of me. Tears and blood running down my eyes as the rain started to pour harder. Blood all over my shirt as I sat down beside him. I picked up his head. No movement. None. I looked over his dead friends lying down all over the street with gun bullets in each of their bodies.
"RUN!" I heard Even scream from across the street. He had bullets in both of his legs so he could not move.
"Gia run. GO GIANNA GO!" It was the way he was saying and screaming it that made me get up and try to run, but I couldn't. My whole life was attached to the dead boy that was lying in front of me. I lifted his head again as I put it across my chest.
"Why? Oh God why?" I started screaming as I looked up to the sky. I was choking on my own tears.
I looked over at my cousin who was desperately trying to get up. I took one last look at my boyfriend's dead body and I tried as much as I can to go and help him. Out of the twelve boys who were involved in this, he was the only one who survived.
"You need to go. Now Gia. There is no time to waste. I'll be fine. Just GO" Even said as I tried to help him up.
"I can't just leave you here." I tried to say between my sobs. I have never cried harder in my life. Not even when my own mother died.
"Look, I'll be fine." He tried to say as calmly as he can, yet in a very fast way." He held my face with his two bloody and muddy hands. "Go as far as you can. I'll follow you. I promise." He said. But I knew he was lying. Even he had an unsatisfying look on his face. Both me and him knew if I left him here, he'll die.
"But I-I don't kn-know where to go." I started looking around helplessly. "I don't even know where we're at!" I started screaming at my worried cousin.
"Look all you have to do is jus-" GUN SHOT. My cousin just got shot as I am kneeling beside him. I looked around but nobody was there. "Oh my God. Oh my God" I started whispering as I lifted his breathless head up. I was alone. Completely alone.
"Gia!" I heard somebody yelling my name. "GIA!" The voice was getting closer.
I put my cousin's head down as I put both hands over my ears and bent my head down.
I woke up breathless. It was a dream. A nightmare. A memory that I keep remembering day after day after day. I sat at the edge of my bed as I looked around. The lights were out. I glanced over at my clock. 6:04. I looked over at the other side of the room. My sister was fast asleep.
I got up to get me a glass of water. Usually a cup of water is always next to me at night. At least that's what my mama used to do. Before she was gone. I looked down at the floor trying to find my slippers in the dark.
"Where the hell are they?" I whispered to myself as I reached across the floor with my hands. After a minute of looking for them, I got frustrated that I decided to walk barefoot. I means it's whatever.
I walked carefully down the stairs to the kitchen. When I got there, I turned the lights on as I went to the fridge. I drank a long , cold cup of water.
"Up early huh?" A voiced said behind me. It was my dad. He was wearing a long orange rope and his glaces while he sipped his coffee. In his other hand was a newspaper.
"The summer started and you still get up early." He said in his joking voice.
"It's 2016 and you still read the newspaper." I joked back with a smile.
"Fair enough." He said as he took a long sip of coffee before placing it in the sink. He was the only important person that was left in my life. Only.
He walked over to me as he held his arms up. I hugged him tightly. I needed that hug so bad , you wouldn't understand, but he does.
"What's up?" He said concerned.
"Oh nothing, just a bad dreamed." I said, trying to sound casual. But both me and him know its more than that. Either way, I tried to avoid eye contact as much as I can.
"Look honey, I know its still bad for you aft-"
"Dad its fine." I interrupted. I didn't feel like putting up with one of his long talks. Especially about that. It would only bring me down.
