May I Have This Dance

Chapter 23

Jack's POV
I open the door and Felix is there with a smile and two flashlights. He hands me a sticky note and a flashlight. My eyebrows knit together and I take the paper and the object.

You are the most amazing person I have known

You'll find the next clue where we have all of our summer "parties"

Felix smirks and I go into the backyard to my fire pit. He follows me with his flashlight.
"Felix what's going on?"

"It's your Christmas present and I shall take this," he says taking Mark's gift.
I take the sticky note from the fire pit and read it.

For the moments we've shared are my favorite memories

I smile and go over to the apple tree. I remember that day. One of the first hospital trips we made together for my stupid antics. This is the best way to give me my gift, but sooner or later I'll get impatient. I climb the tree a little and find the yellow sticky note and pick it up.

You are the sweetest thing ever and I'm glad to call you my childhood friend

At this point it probably isn't good to call me a friend, but I'm not complaining this is fun. I go to his car which is dangerously unlocked. When I'm inside I take a look at the radio. Once I see the little slip of paper I smile. I take it and shine the light on it.

I smile with anticipation. As soon as I get across the white picket fence I go farther into his backyard. Which is a bit of forest. Once I pass a few trees with Felix I see shining lights. As I get closer I notice a trail of lights on the trees. My eyes light up at the twinkle lights of blue and white. As I go farther I find the treehouse that Mark's dad built before well...he died. We haven't been in it since.
At the bottom I see Mark with a smile on his face and his hands behind his back. My smile grows wide and Felix stays put where he is. Not even sure how he snuck out on Christmas eve without his parents knowing. However that doesn't matter. I inch closer to Mark who is surrounded by Christmas lights. He pulls down his hat and I do the same with my beanie.
"Merry Christmas," he gleams handing me the small box.
Felix hands me Mark's gift and I quickly give it to him. He smiles and sets it on the ladder of the treehouse. I unwrap the present and before I open the box he takes it from my hands. My eyebrows furrow together looking at him.
"It's not much, but it's not the only thing I got you. Just letting you know before I go on."

"Okay," I giggle.

"So I've known you since I was four. I remember that I absolutely hated you for trying to play with my truck. However once I found out that you loved games too you quickly became my best friend. Now sophomore year I decided that I had developed some kind of feeling for you. Which I thought was crazy since you were my best friend and I didn't know you were gay until a couple weeks after. I was waiting to see if you liked me back but I could never tell. So I just gave up. Thto when Lucas cane into the picture I thought that this was my chance to get over you. When I laughed at you in the kitchen I did it out of fear. Fear that I would give up Lucas for my best friend that I thought liked Dan. However skipping over the whole Lucas part since I'd rather not talk about that anymore," I chuckle with intrigued eyes.
