Olivia

The soft hum of a car idling in my driveway sent shivers down my spine and a smile spreading across my lips. "He's here." The words came out softly despite the fact that the fluttery feeling in my chest wanted the words to bubble out excitedly. Taking a deep breath in and smoothing out my hair in the mirror for the hundredth time, I waited for my phone to buzz in my shaking hand.

Instead, though, there was a loud knock at the door causing me to practically jump out of my skin. Who actually comes to the door anymore? Somehow I managed to turn the knob with my sweaty hands and tried to give off an air of relaxed happiness even though it was fairly obvious that I was an anxiety filled wreck. He either didn't notice or was too polite to comment on it as he stood there looking like an Adonis in my humble doorway, a dazzling smile staring down at me. "Wow, Olivia, you look stunning. I feel a little under dressed."

My laugh came out a bit more nervous than I would like, but it wasn't as bad as it should've been. I immediately went to straighten out my dress as my eyes scanned him up and down. He was definitely dressed up in his pressed button down and slacks, dress shoes polished to the point where they reflected my roof back to me. His hair was tastefully messy, the curly black tufts laying perfectly, and I immediately felt like my entire being was out of place in his presence. "Ah, if anything I feel under dressed."

The timidness of the words almost made me cringe, but he laughed it off like it was nothing. "I got these for you. I wasn't sure what kind you would like, but I thought they were just as lovely as you." Is this really happening? As the hand that hid behind his back revealed a gorgeous bouquet of assorted roses, I was absolutely positive none of it could be real.

"Oh! You didn't have to do that!" I exclaimed, taking them lightly and lifting them to my face, the fresh, floral scent drifting to my nose. "Let me go put these in some water! You can come in if you'd like, I'll just be a second."

As I scurried off to the kitchen to fill a mason jar with water, he called, "I would love to, but I left the car running." That being said, I- a bit more carelessly than I should've- tossed the flowers into the jar and rushed back to the door. I didn't want to keep him too long, not after he presented himself as such a perfect date. "Ready to go?"

He put out his hand for me to take as he walked me to the car, a fit of anxiety overcoming me as I knew my hands must have been sweating wildly, though he took it anyway. The door almost slammed shut behind us as we made our way to the- "That's your car?" I asked in shock, stopping short in my tracks as I stared at the sleek convertible parked in my driveway. It looked terribly out of place in the grubby, suburban neighborhood and I hoped to God he hadn't noticed that yet.

"Yeah!" He ran his free hand over the pristine, white exterior. "2016 Porsche Boxster, got it for my birthday. Nothing too special."

"Wow." I exhaled the word, the amazement in my voice absolutely blowing up his ego with the smug smile on his face, but I couldn't help it. "I think this is the fanciest car I've ever seen."

"I have three more at home." He remarked as if it were nothing and I almost choked on my spit. There was no doubt these cars were worth more than my entire life and he just had them sitting in a garage. "Anyway." His long arm reached out and pulled the door open for me, that smile still tugging at his lips as he motioned for me to get in, his hand falling out of mine in the process.

I slid in, trying to straighten my dress before laying my simple, black clutch on my lap. I watched him walk around the front of the car, running a hand through his hair to have it fall effortlessly back into place. I couldn't help but feel small as he sat down to the left to me, what with his clearly amazing fortune and all, but I knew that was silly. He had set up a huge date for me, so he said, so he must not have cared what I have or what my background was; he just wanted to take me out. Everything was falling into place and I just needed to relax.
