Open Circle
Bliss thought she had everything under control. She thought that once she would close the circle, she would be safe from the evil that was trying to force into her world. Obviously, she was way past wrong. She could still feel the deep, black presence of that unknown force. It slithered though her body like a snake. She was used to her magic and her power. All she needed was for someone to be there to see her through it. Her power is unique and different. She was born into a world where power is the only element that mattered. Whether it was human or unhuman wise. If only the world knew she wasn't just any everyday girl.
The moon burned bright through her window and making checkered shadows on the floor. Bliss sat surrounded by bright, burning white candles. She inhaled and tasted the sweet vanilla aroma they gave. Her body shivered and her head swirled in circles as she was trying to gather her vision. The black presence was still lingering over her head. She cringed, and lifted her knees close to her chest. She wanted to rock back and forth in a fetal position, but that would've been too much.
Bliss unlocked herself from her position on the floor and slowly began to move the candles away from the perfect circle she had created around her. She lightly blew out the vanilla candles, enjoying each of their after burning scents. The aroma reminded her of her mother. The way she used to burn the candles all over her house. Bliss was just a little disappointed that her mother did not practice her magic anymore. She would've enjoyed the company of her mother while she practiced her magic.
She sat the candles onto her open desk and brought her shining silvers up to the sky. She hummed softly to herself while staring at the dark, indigo sky and the burning white moon. She softly closed her eyes and inhaled the vanilla scent again. Her head was swirling so much, she could hardly stand. She shook her head to clear the feeling. She kept her eyes closed, staring at nothing but pitch black darkness.
Soft, deep footsteps began approaching her door. She opened her eyes and waited. The door opened and the lights in the room popped on.
"Bridgette?" A sweet, suttle voice trickled behind Bliss.
"Mom, I told you I go by Bliss now." She said calmly.
"I'm sorry honey. I named you Bridgette and that's the name I'm sticking to."
"What is it, Mom?" Bliss turned away from the window to face her mother. She had a thin bodily shape like Bliss and full breast. Her hair was the same reddish shade like Bliss' but a little lighter. Her foggy silvers stared her daughter in confusion.
"I thought you said you were going shopping with me?" Her mother's voice turned sad.
"I'm sorry, Mom. I guess I had other plans."
Her mother looked beyond her at the white candles and shook her head. "Bridgette, magic isn't everything."
Bliss sighed. "Is that why you practiced it, lived it everyday?"
"That was when I wasn't pregnant." Her mother said. "Honey, I know you love your power. Don't let it run your life. Trust me."
"Thanks for the heads up, Mom."
"Bridgette?" Her mother paused.
Bliss wished silently that her mother would stop calling her Bridgette. Her real name didn't mean anything to her. It was her human name and she would never hear it anywhere else. To the rest of the world, she would be known as Bliss Cayenne Atkinson instead of Bridgette Cayenne Atkinson. A little name change wouldn't hurt.
Bliss turned away from the candles and curled into bed. She turned on her side and raised the blanket to her face, staring at her mother.
"Yes mother?"
"Good luck in school tomorrow. Your second year as a high schooler. I'm so proud of you. Make new friends even if your old ones are still there, okay."
"Okay, Mom."
"Keep your magic only for home."
"I will." Bliss was letting her eyelids close.
"Good night, honey." Her mother kissed her forehead and walked from her room, closing the door behind her.
"Good night, Mom."
Bliss fell into a deep sleep, but the black force was still clinging to her presence.
