Silence is fine as long as you're with me

Corl sat alone in the fenced enclosure leaned against a hay bale, his head in his hands. The area was silent aside from the dark thoughts running through his head and the crickets chirping in the nearby woods.

The day before, Red's guards had dragged off the other two people in the enclosure. Sub had spoken out against Red and his men. He tried to fight back and even got a few hits on one of the guards. His rebellious actions angered Red and he had his men drag the screaming boy into one of the nearby buildings. Corl stood bewildered, unable to stop them,too scared to fight back.

He sat back against the hay bales, looking up at the stars. A tear ran down his cheek as he tried to come to terms that his partner might be gone to him forever. He jumped as suddenly two guards came to the gate and shoved a groggy Sub into the mud. They slammed the gate and locked it.
"Have fun with your little boyfriend now..." They laughed manically as they turned and walked away from the enclosure.

Corl got up and ran up to the shaking boy on the ground in front of him. He grabbed him by the shoulders and pulled him into his lap looking down at his face. There was bruises and small cuts all over mixed with dirt from the ground. His chin was sticky with blood and his eyes were red from tears and pain.
"Sub..Sub what happened to you? I was sure they would kill you..!"
Sub looked up at him weakly, sorrow filled his eyes and he gave a slight smile.
"Sub please tell me what happened. I need to make sure your okay."
Sub opened his mouth slightly as if he was about to speak before swiftly turning his body away and throwing up a mix of bile and blood onto the ground near them.
"SUB OH MY GOD!!...are you gonna be ok?!?"
Corl reached into his pocket and pulled out a canteen and handed it to to the shaking body in his lap. Sub took it and finished off the whole thing in seconds. Corl giggled at how ravenously he gulped down the water.

The sun had begun to create a pale pink color above the buildings. The light gave Corl a better way to see the horror that had been done to Sub's face. Corl's eyes welled up with angry tears towards Red for doing this to him, and towards himself for not doing anything to stop him. Sub wiped the tears from Corl's face and gave him an understanding smile, pulling him in for a hug.
"Sub..if you won't tell me what happened, at least let me clean up your wounds..? You look like you got mauled by a bear!" Corl exlaimed dramatically, trying to lighten the mood.

Sub smiled warmly and pushed himself to his feet as Corl stood up. He stumbled and leaned into Corl for support as they walked over to the chests next to the half dug tunnel. Corl grabbed a rag and bottle of water and began to wash Sub's bloody face. The boy winced as the rag was stroked across a cut on his cheek. Corl bent down and gave the cut a small kiss and smiled as Sub blushed and looked up at him. He reached down to kiss the boy on the lips, before he could, Sub reached his hands up and pushed his face away. He had fear and worry written on his face. His expression changed to determination as he slowly opened his mouth for Corl to see.

He gasped as he discovered the reason for his partner's silence. His entire tongue had been cut clean from his mouth. Sub closed his mouth and looked away, Tears threatening to pour down his cheeks. He pushed himself away and covered his mouth with his hands, pulling his knees against his chest. Rough whimpers and gasps escaped him as he cried.

Coral sat back shocked, trying to process what had happened. He crawled back over to the green shirted boy curled up in the corner. He held him tighter as cries and gasps wracked his body, screaming into his neck, no longer holding back his pain.

Sub began to calm down as the sun rose high above the buildings washing both boys in a warm light. He pulled away and looked into Corl's eyes behind his tear fogged glasses. They seemed to read each other's mind just by staring into their eyes. Corl spoke first.
"Sub..it's ok..you're a survivor."
He held the boys face in his hands as he continued.
" Silence is fine, as long as you're with me. I won't lose you again"
Sub smiled up at Corl and reached up giving him a peck on the lips before wrapping his arms around Corl's neck tightly. The two laid there against the barrier next to their half built tunnel, not wanting to let each other go. They could only hope that they would both make it out alive.
