I lightly knock on the door that had the all too familiar sign that read 'Principal'. I stood there awkwardly until I heard Mr. Meany's stern, manly voice say "come in". I walked into his office and as soon as his eyes saw me he sighed heavily.

"Oh no, what is it now Bertier?" Mr. Meany questioned as he plonked his face into his hands and dragged his hands downwards at an agonizingly slow pace before returning his gaze to my own. I took a seat and placed my feet on his mahogany desk.

"Well you see-"

"Get your feet off my desk Ryan, you know the rules." He interrupted. I smirked slyly at him before taking my legs off his table.

"as I was saying, I was sent here by Ms. Jenkins because she thought I was being such a lovely student for giving her a bouquet of roses and telling her how beautiful she was when she over does her makeup so subtly. It really cheers up the students, to see her beautiful face!" I say trying not to let it known that I wanted to laugh so badly. But I failed miserably as the side of my mouth rose and a little gasp of air was let out.

"Ryan," Mr. Meany, replied sternly as he stared at me as though he was interrogating me. His stares were famous for making any kid spill their guts....and I wasn't an exception.

"fine. I was bad mouthing Ms. Jenkins." I replied honestly.

"And why is that Bertier?" Mr. Meany said in his usual stern tone.

"Because she had called my mother and told her I was failing and needed tutoring lessons!" I explained, flailing my hands in an exasperated motion, trying to exaggerate my point and get it through to him that I'm in the right and don't deserve to be punished.

"And? That gives you no right to insult her Ryan. She just doesn't want you to fail her class." Mr. Meany reasons as he intertwines his hands together and places them on the table.

"My mother got Ryan Carter to tutor, Ryan 'freakin' Carter! I may not know what the hell algebra is or the formula for Pythagoras' theorem is but I do know that Ryan Carter is going to be of no help!" I argue as I sit on the edge of my seat, getting desperate for him to see it through my eyes and fix everything for me, like he usually does.

"Ryan, you know Mr. Carter is actually one of the most academically advanced student within our school. In fact, he is taking all advanced classes. So don't judge a book by its cover and see how this all goes down. You never know Ryan you might learn better than you did in Ms. Jenkins class." Mr Meany reasoned. I took a deep breath out in frustration and looked away from Mr Meany's face and stared at my feet.

But apparently he wasn't doing it this time, apparently he wants to see me suffer and fall into a manhole of depression.

"Ryan, I know you find it hard to talk to others but you have to break out of your comfort zone sometime soon, you can't always keep yourself barricaded from the real world. It's been so long since I last saw the old Bertier, maybe it's time you set her free." Mr Meany said before he dismissed me. I stood out of the chair and walked out of his office still staring at my feet, have I really changed that much?

"For goodness sake Bertier if you don't stop tapping that goddamn pen I will throw you out your bedroom window!" Carter yells furiously from beside me. I grin in satisfaction of his reaction and went to tap my pen once more until a hand shot out from beside me and snatched the pen from my grasp.
