Michelle POV
Finally my teacher let me take a break from fighting, I was in line for food. I grabbed the bag the lady gave me and walked slowly outside trying to rest my aching sore legs, I exited the school into the front of the building where the big acre of land lay. The land was covered in a beautiful breathtaking forest with stunningly tall trees, I kept walking toward the forest. The place I was heading to was least a 2 minute walk but it was worth it, the only thing making it difficult was the heavy bag that I carried on my back full of my equipment. Which was my basic supplies, first aid kit, my dagger and my bow and quvier.
I was close to my resting spot when my shoulders gave out on me and the bag fell, my dagger falling out with it. The light that shone through the treetops reflected on the blade making it shine in all its glory as it lay there. I stood there still for a second staring at my dagger, that blade held memories. So many memories, the good and the bad. I shook my head trying to not let it get to me right now, I grabbed my bag and picked up the dagger and put it deep into my bag.
The resting spot is the most relaxing and peaceful place in the whole forest to me, awhile ago when we were learning how to use the elements around us to our advantage we had to travel every inch of the forest. When I saw this spot I knew then that its where I belong. There in front of me rooted to the ground was the tree I've learned to love, the branches spreading out to great lengths and the thickness of the leaves blocking out most of the sun. It. Is. Perfection.
The tree was surrounded by bushes, rose bushes. The roses are what made me feel welcome because of the tattoo that I was gifted with. It starts at my shoulder and goes down on my sides and ends at my waist, the design was dark red roses on black vines. I hide the tattoo with concealer, I know that its what links me to my soulmate that I haven't found yet but the painful stories that people close to me have told me about their rejection makes me avoid it.
Flashback 10 years:
Its my birthday today, I'm turning 7 and I get to started first grade.
"She's gonna love learning about Athena, she's brave just like her" my mother says to my Grandma while cutting the cake. I was sitting at the table the cake was at opening my presents.
"Maybe she'll be gifted with a soulmate, just gotta look out for the start of the tattoo" my Grandma says to my mother with hopefully eyes. My mother glared at her slightly.
"You shouldn't give her false hope" my mother said in response
My grandma sighed in anger and said " Just because you got rejected after that filth of a man used you doesn't mean that's gonna happen to her..". My mother was ready to start arguing with her till I came up next to her and hugged her tight.
"Don't fight with grandmoo mommy please" I begged her and she sighed and picked me up and kissed my forehead, I started to get sleepy so my mother carried me to my room and put me in bed. Then she sat down on my bed next to me after she tucked me in.
"Listen honey" she said softly, "I don't like fighting with grandmoo but I don't want you to get hurt that's all, do you understand?", I nodded and she sang me to sleep.
Present:
I dropped my bag on the ground gently and pulled out a blanket my grandma had made for me, I went to the base of the tree where there was less roots sticking out of the ground and laid the blanket there. I slowly sat down slowly and opened my bag of food and started eating a sandwich and a apple, while I was eating I stared at the designs my grandma had put on the blanket all on her own. I miss her, she always supported me and held me when my mother cried because they had discovered the small rose appearing on my shoulder. It was the start of my tattoo.
I heard the loud horn that signals break is over and I jumped up not realizing I had dazed off that long. I threw my leftover scraps into the food bag and grabbed my equipment bag, put the blanket into it, and put the bag on my back. I started jogging back towards the school dreading the next class.
When I finally made it inside the school building again, I stopped to take a breather but realized that I had 1 minute to get to class. I dashed down the hallway as quick as I could, I made it into the training room. Everyone was already ready to go and the instructor glared at me.
"Sorry Sir" I said to the instructor and walked over to stand next to my friend who was laughing at me. Then the bell rang which signaled the start of class.
" Michelle Lee Don't rush into my class almost late again or I'll strap a damn watch to your wrist" The instructor said back furiously, I nodded and put my bag in its usual spot when I trained.
"Alright today your going to fight one on one with the person I pair you with, you get a grade on your effort to win and bonus points if you win", he started pairing people up and I looked over at Marie, my one friend in this hell whole. Marie smiled and crossed her fingers in hope we'd get paired up and I did the same, I studied her outfit. She wore one of her lazy shirts and shorts that revealed her tattoo that started at her thigh down to her ankle and I gave her a thumbs up, she always looked nice with her curly brown hair and pale skin.
I have straight light brown hair and the same pale skin as hers, I also have blueish green eyes and she has just blue eyes. I admired how she shows off her tattoo but I could never do that, while I was dazed off again I didn't notice the instructor calling my name.
" MICHELLE! Listen damn it, your partnered with Dean" The instructor points at Dean and I lay my eyes on him and walk up to him, he's looks me up and down. I give him a small smile and stand next to him.
"Alright starting fighting!" The instructor blows his whistle and walks off and sits then watches the class fighting. I get into my fighting stance facing Dean, he seemed a little surprised by my pro stance. I smirked, and he grinned. Somehow I got mesmerized by that grin, and I didn't realize that gave him an advantage till I was thrown to the ground.
I grabbed my side in pain and cursed quietly, he was standing over me still grinning. This should be an interesting day.
AN: Sorry for the short chapter but then again its just the beginning :)
