"Barry!" Cisco called to the 26 year old star gazed boy. He snapped out of his thoughts and looked over at him.
"Huh?" He asked in a high pitched and confused voice. It seemed like Cisco had been trying to get his attention for a while now. Why didn't he hear him before? All he was doing was watching his fellow Flash team member Caitlin perform some test on some Metahuman evidence. He was leaning against the back wall of the cortex near his suit and watched her as she moved around in the next room over. He watched as she pushed a couple strands of her light brown hair behind her ear so she could look in her microscope. He honestly didn't know why he was even watching her in the first place, but now that he was he couldn't stop.
"We've got a Metahuman down at the Wharf." Cisco said in a slightly panicked, slightly frustrated voice. Barry snapped his eyes off Cait and looked at Cisco. Cisco shot him a look in return that said 'Dude! Come on! Activate super hero mode!'
"Oh, right." Barry shook his head clean of the rest of his thoughts and turned towards his suit which was displayed in it's case in the cortex of STAR labs. Using his super speed, he grabbed it and slipped it on and whooshed out the door.
"Be careful!" Caitlin called after him as she looked up from her work and at the entrance where Barry just ran out.
"You always say that a second too late." Cisco said sarcastically at her. Caitlin gave him a quick look before looking through her microscope again.
Cisco looked down at the computer monitor in front of him. He watched the red dot that represented Barry as he ran through the streets of Central City. He pushed off the counter table and rolled in his chair to another monitor, which he used to hack into the wharf's security feed. As the camera popped up, Cisco's eyes widened. What he saw on the screen sent chills down his spin.
It was a giant Metahuman, both in size and brut force. He somewhat resembled a human, but he was mostly animatronic looking. He was made out of some sort of metal that he couldn't identify with his bare eye, but it was nothing that he had ever seen before or worked with.
"Caitlin, come look at this!" He called to her as Barry appeared on the screen at the wharf. The video feed did not have sound, so they couldn't hear what Barry was saying.
"What kind of thing are you?" Barry asked the building of a man as he skidded to a stop in front of it.
"A thing built to take you down." The thing responded with an animated voice. You could tell this was not a suit that some human was hiding in. This was 100% machine, and it was built to take down The Flash.
"Why me? I'm trying to protect this city!" Barry replied. "Which I'm guessing is not your top priority."
The thing took a step towards him.
"Careful...." Cisco said quietly under his breath as he sat in front of the screen. Caitlin had one hand on the back of his chair and one hand oh the counter in front of the screen. She was watching with wide eyes as her best friend took on what seemed like an impossible opponent. She was truly scared for him.
"Because...." The monster started, responding to Barry's previous question. "I want to know what you truly are."
After he finished his sentence, objects bursted out of his arms. Barry's eyes flashed with the speed force as he moved to dodge them. The objects flying towards him seemed to be in slow motion, making it easy to dodge. The objects passed him, and he easily let them.
"Is that all you got?" Barry provoked as he stood up straight and took a couple confident strides towards the Meta human, if you could even call it 'human.'
The meta pushed a button on it's chest in response, and the objects that were now laying behind him shot towards him. Barry couldn't see them because he was focused on the meta in front of him. He didn't even know something was coming for him until they made contact with his back. It felt like he was getting ten shots at once. Needles shot from the ball shaped objects and pushed into his skin. Barry arched his back in pain and let out a yell.
"OH my god!" Cisco said in surprise as he watched Barry fall to one knee.
"What the hell was that?" Caitlin asked in fear as she ran over to the monitor that tracked Barry's vitals. They began to drop. "Cisco! The weapons are making him crash!"
"Weapons usually do that!" He snapped back as he began to type away on his computer.
"Can you tell what they are?" Caitlin asked as she retuned to his side. She was hoping Cisco's vast knowledge and computer abilities could help in this suddenly dire situation.
"It's hard to tell from the cameras." Cisco replied frantically and Barry fell on his other knee.
He let out another moan, which wasn't heard by his two best friends sitting behind the screen. Barry honestly felt like he was going to pass out. His head became dizzy and he couldn't see straight.
"Cisco we have to do something!" Caitlin exclaimed as Barry's vitals took another big hit.
"I'm trying!" Cisco snapped at her as his fingers frantically slapped across the key board in front of him.
"Is it really that easy, Flash?" The meta mocked Barry as he was now on all fours, trying to keep himself from falling over.
Barry's breathing began to slow, and it felt like smoke was filling his head. He knew he was about to pass out. Why wasn't his quick healing abilities working to fight against this? This shouldn't be happening to him!
He fell onto his side. His vision became very blurry and he let out another moan in pain. His whole body felt like it was on fire. He reached his hand up to try to push the communication button in his suit. He barely had enough strength to make it there.
"Cisco!" He said drearily as the heard a ding, signaling that he was on the line with STAR labs.
Back at the cortex, both Cisco and Caitlin jumped with they heard his voice coming through the intercom in front of them. Caitlin jumped at it and pushed the communication button.
"Barry! Stay with me Barry!" She pleaded as she held the mic close to her mouth. She gripped the bottom stand of it tightly until her knuckles were white.
"I-" She heard Barry's frail voice come through. "I'm going to pass out." He said in a quiet voice. Cait could tell that it was hard for him to get his words out.
"Barry please stay with me." Cait pleaded again. There was no response. Caitlin ran back over to the monitor showing the security feed and dropped the mic when she saw Barry. He was laying limply on his side. She took in a short breath as the meta took a couple steps towards his passed out body. Whatever drugs were in those spheres stopped Barry's ability to fight off things fast, and it may have even messed with his speed. She honestly was scared for him. Her eyes widened even more as the meta reached Barry's body and picked it up. Barry hung limp in his arms. Cait tried to hold back tears. The last time she saw Barry like this was when Zoom snapped his back in half. She did not want to live something like that again. She couldn't loose him like she lost Ronny. She cared about Barry way too much to live a life without him. She had to do something.
But what could she do?
She didn't have powers, and there was no way she could reach him in time. She felt useless as she watched the meta hold Barry's body.
"W-whoa whoa whoa what is that thing doing with Barry?" Cisco asked as he peeled his eyes away from his research and looked back at the feed.
"I-I don't know." Caitlin replied, close to tears. They both watched as the meta held Barry in his arms.
They were not ready for what he did next.
The meta, still holding Barry's limp body, pushed another button on his forearm and evaporated into thin air.
He was gone, and so was Barry.
