"So we're all good then? No more running away from me?" he joked, rubbing my arm up and down.
I looked down, smiling and shaking my head slightly in embarrassment.
"Yeah, we're all good," I mumbled, grabbing his arm and wrapping my own around it, snuggling up towards him and breathing in his familiar scent.
He chuckled, before stripping me off of his frame ever so gently.
"Okay, well I gotta go," he informed me, planting a feather-soft kiss on my cheekbone, closing his eyes and dusting his lips over the skin there for a brief second, making me realise how much I really needed him close to me. I closed my eyes too, savouring the sensation
When I opened my eyes again, Louis was on his feet.
"I'll be back soon and you can stay over," he said, giving me a reassuring smile, "Sorry that I have to leave."
I waved my hand carelessly, indicating that I didn't mind. However, I had to ask.
"Where are you going?"
He stopped in his tracks, pausing for a second, before turning to face me again slowly.
"Just have some stuff to take care of that can't wait, but I shouldn't be long," Louis told me, winking.
I wanted to ask more questions, but knew that he would have told me if he wanted me to know. Instead, I watched him open the door and walk down the stairs. I heard him issue a curt 'thank you' and 'goodbye' to my mother, and the disliking he still had for her was evident in his tone. Seconds later, I heard the door slam shut and the engine of his car start, and he was gone.
I walked down the stairs to get a drink of water, hoping it would ease the thumping headache the serious intense topic of conversation had given me. When I walked into the kitchen, I was met with my mother, smirking at me.
"Have a little fight, did we?" she half-asked, half-stated, referring to Louis and I. Her snide comment brought back the image of her smug face as she observed the awkwardness between Louis and I at the dinner table.
"You know what?" I asked, my anger boiling to the surface, "Yeah, we did. But that's none of your business. So why don't you quit messing around and playing games and act like the responsible adult you're supposed to be, not like the useless, selfish one you've been for the whole of my life."
My harsh words even shocked myself. I had no control over what I was saying, the words practically jumped out of my mouth themselves. My mum's face turned from shock to anger, before she placed down the plate she was holding and stepping towards me. I had a horrible sense of déja vú, and it was about to get a whole lot worse.
"We've been over this," she whispered, her words holding a terrible, bone-shaking chill, "You treat me with some respect or you leave this house. Since you can't do the first, I guess we're gonna have to go back and re-visit the first one again. Get out. I don't care that your precious Louis isn't here to rescue you this time. You can wait on the curb for all I care. Just leave. Now."
