Let me start by saying this, the world wasn't always this black, dark, pre-electric wasteland. There's now power now. No outlets, no chargers, no cellphones, and no batteries. The only lights we have are candles inside, fires outside at night, and the sun during the day.
Ever since the blackout last year, my family got sick and died and so did my friends' families. We are all we each have left. We figured after sickness would come riots and raids so we had to protect ourselves. My friend Alex had a gun room where her family stored all their hunting equipment. I got a bow and arrows, a knife, and a pistol. The pistol was only for emergencies because without power there were no more factories to produce the bullets we needed.
I'm upset to say we've gotten pretty good at using our weapons. We've killed many people. Only if they were attacking us of course. Or attacking someone else. We protect those who can't protect themselves while protecting ourselves.
We each grabbed all the food that wouldn't spoil from our houses before we had to relocate. We are starting to run low so it's probably time to try to scavenge from an abandoned house or store. I look around at my friends asleep and sigh as I wake them all up. Ashleigh, Kala, Alex, DJ, Kelly, Dorian, Alycia, Ana, Victoria, Skye, and Emily all look at me tiredly and groan.
"Cam!" Emily whines, "Why'd you wake us up?"
I laugh a bit and smile. "Cmon, we have to get food. We leave in five minutes so pack stuff up and be ready." I say this in a sort of demanding voice but it also has my lightness in it. The girls begin packing up and I start making sure the fire is out and our tracks are covered so no one can track us.
I come back to find all our stuff packed up and ready to go. "Cammie!" Kayla smirks and runs over to me as my face shows anger at the name. "We packed everything! Let's go!"
"First," I say with my sassy voice that all my friends know and kind of love, "never call me that. The only person who calls me that is annoying so the nick name fits with the person. Second, everyone make sure all your weapons are at easy access for you to grab if we need them." I say in my authoritative voice before giving them all a nod.
After everyone is ready to go, we set off walking in a V-formation. I'm at the front with my bow tight in my left hand and my right hand ready to grab an arrow from the sheath on my back at any needed moment.
We see the store up ahead so we stop and move to the side of the road. "Ok. Emily, Kala, Alex, DJ, and Kelly come with me to the back. Ashleigh, Ana, Victoria, Skye, Dorian, and Alycia go through the front. Everyone be ready, there might be people camped out in there who will attack us and kill us to take what we have." Everyone nods and tightens their grips around their weapon handles as I give everyone the signal to go. "Meet back out here in 45 minutes."
My group stealthily stalks our way to the back of the large store and we surround the door. I look at everyone to make sure they're ready then open the door. We rush through, holding our weapons high in case someone is waiting. We overtake the room and it's clear. It looks like there is a bunch of imperishable food in this room so we pack our bags full and then move out into the main part where the shoppers would be.
We hear footsteps at the front of the store. Our other group. Then I hear a thud behind me and turn to see a tall boy behind an unconscious DJ. I instantly load the arrow on my bowstring and shot it right in his shoulder. I instantly pounce on him and pull the arrow from his shoulder and get ready to jab it in his heart. "Who are you?" I say bitterly and pull the mask from his face. "Harry Styles?!" I look at the curly-haired boy and raise an eyebrow. I load the arrow in my bow and get ready to shoot if he tries to pull snytgung. I climb off him and let him stand.
"Hello Cameron." He says in his husky voice with his British accent.
"How do you know my name?" I ask curiously as I look at the rest of my group with their weapons trained on 4 more tall, well built figures with masks just like Harry.
"We've heard a lot about you. We've had men following you and your group for a while."
"We?" I ask with a raised eyebrow.
As if to answer my question, the other 4 figures take off their masks and reveal the other members of One Direction.
"Weapons down." I say to my friends and put my bow to my side as my other group comes running to us.
"Cam, we have a problem," Dorian says with worry in her voice.
"What is it?" I ask and get a serious look.
"A group of men in uniforms are surrounding the building and are about to bust in."
"These men?" I look at Harry and get angry.
"They aren't ours... Hurry. We have to get out of here. Follow us." Harry says and runs to the other side of the store with One Direction following. My friends look at me and I nod as we start running behind them.
We are taken into s back room and shown to an underground tunnel that leads out into the woods according to Harry. "So we're just supposed to trust you?" I ask.
"Well would you rather take your chances with the Maxwell Military?" Niall sasses me.
"Why is the Maxwell Military trying to get you?" Kala asks as she's carrying DJ in the tunnel.
"Long story." Liam replies as we all sprint down the tunnel and climb out a few minutes later about a mile away from the store. We sneak into the woods and catch our breath after we are safely away from the store.
"Wanna tell us now?" I ask while panting for air.
"We'll explain everything later," Louis says, "right now just rest and relax."
"Fine." I say stubbornly and sit against a tree, trying to wake DJ from her getting hit in the head by Harry.
