Ch. 1: In a heartbeat

*Elizabeth's pov*

Time for dinner" my dad called for me. "Coming" I say. I shut my laptop and run downstairs. "I made your favorite, Elizabeth, steak and mashed potatoes!" "Its Liz, for the millionth time. But thanks anyway" I replied. My dad opened the door to outside and called my brothers, Ethan and Elliot in for dinner. They were playing football outside. "Five more minutes please, were just finishing a game!" Elliot begged. "Fine, if you don't mind eating cold food," my dad replied. Then he shut the door and sat down. We both started eating. "Yum, this is delicious dad!" I said. "Thank you," My dad replied. I finished my dinner and washed my dishes and put them in the sink. "Can I get some chocolate covered pretzels?" I asked. "Of course, just dont tell your brothers." "Haha okay." I went over to the pantry and pulled out the chocolate covered pretzels and sat at the table. I began to play Robot Unicorn Attack on my phone, which is my favorite game EVER. A few minutes later Madison sent me a text. "Hey Liz! Can you come over tomorrow? i have something i want to show you!" "Maybe, hang on I will ask my dad." I replied to her message. Almost immediately she replied "YAY TEXT ME WHAT HE SAYS!" I quickly typed "Will do," and sent it. "Hey dad, do we have plans tomorrow?" I asked him. "Not that I know of, why?" "Maddie invited me over." "Okay I think that will be fine." My dad exclaimed. "THANK YOU DADDY!" I said enthusiastically. I pulled out my iPhone and typed "My dad said I could! See you tomorrow!" In a few seconds, Maddie said "Okay love you, see you tomorrow!" "Bye, love you too!" I replied. I turned my phone off and started eating my pretzels. Then, my dads phone started ringing. "Hello," he answered. "Hello sir. We have some unfortunate news," the doctor said. "W-what is it?" "Its about your wife." "WHAT HAPPENED TO HER," my dad yelled. "The heart surgery didn't go to well." "W-what do you mean," my dad stuttered. "Your wife had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and is now in a coma, she is on life support, but we don't know how long she will be in it." "T-thank you, we will be right over." My dad hung up the phone and broke down sobbing. "Elizabeth, we need to go now. Get the boys." "Whats going on?" "Just get in the car. I will explain later." I run outside and yell for my brothers and they come inside. "Get in the car now boys." We all get in the car. "Now can you tell me what happened?" I asked. "Your mothers heart surgery didn't go to well," My dad said behind tears. "What do you mean," Ethan, Elliot and I asked. "Well she had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and unfortunately, is in a coma and we don't know when, or if she will ever wake up." "N-no. This isn't real." I stuttered. "This cant be real. Liz is right." Elliot said. "This isn't one of my jokes. This time, its real." "Is mommy okay?" Ethan asked. My dad took a deep breath. "Yes honey, mom will be fine. Don't worry," my dad said. A few minutes we arrived at the hospital. We walked up to the front desk and asked what room my mother is in. "Room 246 on the second floor," the front desk worker replied. We walked to the elevator and arrived at her room. "Daddy why is mommy sleeping in the middle of the day?" Ethan asked. "Well, she is probably very tired from the surgery and decided to take a nap," my dad answered. I walked over and kneeled next to my moms hospital bed. "Love and comfort to surround you," I felt a tear slip from my eye. "And the warm and peaceful feeling, god is with you healing," I quietly whispered while holding her hand. I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted her to stay in my life forever. I broke down in tears. "Sh honey its okay." My dad calmly said to me. "Mom will be fine, don't worry." My dad said while softly stroking my hair. Soon after, the nurse came in. "Visiting hours are over." "Okay thank you miss." My dad answered. Then we all left the hospital and had a silent car ride home. I ran upstairs to my room. I was so upset. I yelled and threw my book at the wall. Then, I laid on my bed. "I can count on you god. Please keep my mother safe. Please." I said before slowly drifting off into a deep sleep.
