robin's nose wriggled up as she pressed her lips to a salted lime. it stung her taste buds and in response, her tongue smacked against her lips a few repetitive times. a girl whom often sat with robin at lunch laughed at her. they didn't talk much at all and they mostly both scribbled away in journals and munched on snacks. occasionally, the girl, kendall, would look over and compliment a specific aspect of robin's drawings. or, in turn, robin would show an appreciation of a string of words kendall would jot down.

so, on the day kendall laughed, it was the most unusual for the normally quiet lunch table. robin looked up, a tad surprised. her eyes met kendall's brown ones and slowly started to crinkle up in a smile. robin slid a slice of salted lime to the girl, who accepted it politely. expecting a sour expression, robin was half shocked when she sgaw her take a bite out of the citrus, chew it, and swallow it with no hesitation. there were no winces or second thoughts. robin was thoroughly impressed.

robin's lips parted and she mouthed the word 'wow' as she leaned forward. kendall opened her mouth and wiggled her tongue, showing she'd finished even all the meaty part of the lime. the silence didn't remain broken, however. kendall turned back to scribbling and robin continued her sketch of some bright eyes and a lanky body.

returning home following that day, she saw her sister was home early as was usual for fridays. robin sat atop the table her sister was faced away from on a chair and she began to pull her sister's hair into a bun. the blonde bun sat loosely on her head.

her sister, joey, looked very different. robin was perhaps 5'1 while joey was 5'6. joey's eyes were baby blue and her hair was always a fair blonde. however, even with these differences, they were very close. robin clung to joey when her mom had passed and joey clung right back. now, it feels awkward and strange for either of them when they don't see each other for a few days.

joey turned in her seat to look at her little sister and gave out a crooked smile. the auburn haired girl gave a mighty hug around the neck before disappearing in her room.

it was exactly 2:47 at night when her phone buzzed. robin's hand shoved around the dark sheets before she finally plucked out the smartphone and squinted at it angrily. 'hi there, bird.' the text message was simple and infuriating -- simply infuriating at 2:40 something am.

groaning internally, robin hastily threw her phone against the wall with a crack and resumed sleeping. in the morning, it was safe to say she was rather confused as to why her phone was on the floor. nonetheless, she picked it up promptly and laughed.

'hi there, snake.' her tongue jutted out from between her fuller lips and she stumbled over to the bathroom.

she got ready for the day in a pair of skinny khakis and a red knitted sweater, dabbing on a little black eyeliner and smearing on chapstick. she was never one for much makeup, but did appreciate the extra definition. hugging her sister off, she sat down on her couch.

her couch was plump on lazy days like this and she was more than ready to sink her shoulders into it. a throw on the back of it provided ample comfort while the TV spit out garbage.

however, all day on that lazy day, she got texts from a snake.
'whatcha doin?'

'mmm nothing' it was true, at least.

it was a little distraction, texting him and all. the house didn't seem so quiet when she was the one laughing in it. her small smile gave the area a bit more warmth.

around 3, she flipped to a jerry springer type of show and found herself nodding off.
'bye snake.'

not bothered by this sudden goodbye, sawyer sage laughed on his end of the conversation. he bluntly predicted why, feeling no humility if he would be wrong. 'bye bird. have a nice nap.'

she smiled sleepily, running her neck further onto the couch side. 'thanks bap.'

'anytime.'

she woke up the next morning with a terrible crick in her neck and a simple good morning text.

'hi, bird. nice nap?'

'of course. the birds are singing, the sun is shining.'

'didn't know you could sing?'

ahh sorry guys for all the.. yknow.. shortness of my chapters but I particularly don't like very action contained chapters in the beginning and while I may have very many chapters, I want to keep this around novella length. Tell me what y'all think of Robin so far btw?
