It was a dark day with a hazy fog hanging over the town I live in, most families were keeping their children inside, where is was safe. My mother was on the porch putting something together. "Scarlette come down here" she called me. I was in my room carving little pictures into my wall with my nails a bad habit I've had for the longest time, I sat up and walked down the narrow creeky stairs and then outside. "It's time you went to see your granmother again, before her time comes you need to speak with her." she said, still putting things in a small basket. I nodded and began to walk back inside to go back to laying on my bed but she stoped me. "Scarlette now, get your hood and boots this needs to be today" she said becoming agravated. I groaned and replied "alright mom I'm going" I put on my hood and boots then came back out with a slightly aggravated look on my face, my mother handed me the basket, it was filled with food for me, some presents for my grandma I suppose, and a knife on the side, just in case, because you can never be too careful here. I began to walk down the small curvy path that led me towards the dark woods. My mother and I seem to be the only people who go in there...or at least the only ones that go in and come back out with only a few scratches. The crows cawed in their murders, looking down at me as I walked past they seemed to be a warning, something didnt feel right, but then again nothing ever does here. I hurried along, the clouds grew darker and it began to rain, I tugged my hood a little more over my head covering my long blonde hair. As I continued down this path for a long while, the canopy of trees made it hard for me to see. The ground was wet and slippery, it became harder to walk the ground giving way here and there. I came to a small bridge and heard whispering, a man. "come come little one help me...I have fallen, come come little one pull me out and I will make it worth your time" he said slowly looking at me with his dark eyes. I'd been told about this "man" before, there are stories about him, he's no real man but a trap to catch the unsuspecting and stupider people who come walking through these woods, then again you must be either stupid or insane to come walking through them in the first place. I walked across the bridge carefully and the man began to speak again "you rotten child, help me out for I will die here if you don't" He hissed, his eyes began to turn black and his teeth began to show. "I cannot help you for you are stuck there and will not be coming out or bringing me down as well" I replied my voice cold. The man clawed at the side of the bridge trying to find my foot, I quickly stomped on his hand and then quickly made my way across the rest of the bridge. As I got further and further I heard his hissing continue, fading slowly. Moving faster than before I walked along a narrow path between a small stream and the forest where it was lighter though not by much. I watched the little bugs and sprites skate along the stream, they looked so happy there, in the light of the forest where the monsters would never go unless they smelled something they wanted. The stream made a bend and I had to continue on the path that kept going straight, back into the darkness I heard a howl not so far off maybe a mile, I picked up my pace almost jogging still watching the ground too keep from falling, anyone who lived near the dark forest knew that they should walk a little faster when they hear a howl. My heart raced as I began a light trot, my grandmother's house couldn't be much further and I needed to reach it before nightfall. The ground was wet from the rain, I began to slip. I fell and as I hit the ground my head hit a rock, the world faded around me, another foggy howl and then nothing, just black.
