Piece By Piece

The Beginning

Tobias POV.
Three years after Tris died.

"Goodbye Zeke!" I say as I leave the control room. I'm heading back to my apartment and a girl says,  "Hello!" On the way there. I smile and wave. When I reach my apartment I unlock it and throw my keys on the table and sit on my bed. I sigh and look at the clock hanging on the wall. It's three in the afternoon.
"Oh yeah." I forgot to get Èclair from daycare. I leave the house locking it and make my way

When I arrive I see Melissa, a girl the same age as me who takes care of the kids. She says hello and I smile, she then calls,
"Èclair!" A three year old  toddles over to me laughing and clapping her hands in the process, her short blonde hair swaying in her face.
"Daddy!" She calls hugging my legs.
"Hello munchkin!" I pick her up and brush her hair out of her face. She still laughs making me smile.
"Thank you Melissa," I say.
"No problem Four, have a good night!" "Thanks I will!" I reply.

As we are nearing our apartment that same girl is there who said hello, and gives my daughter Èclair a dirty look. At first I'm confused but then I realize she has or had a thing for me there. To annoy her and show her I have no interest, I say to Éclair,
"How was your day Munchkin?" She responds with words she knows and her attitude. I smile at her giggles, and as my unlocking the door she asks,
"Daddy?"
"Yeah sweet heart?"
"Why do you cry sometimes at sleep time?" I look at my feet and then look at her,
"I guess I just really miss mommy," and with that, the girl walks away. What I said was true, but I'm also satisfied she's gone. She ignores my last line. I unlock the door and let her go run and play in her room.

"Èclair?" I ask.
"Yeah daddy!" She toddles out of her room,
"Aunt Christina is coming over soon to babysit you alright?" I say, she just claps her hands and cheers. Tonight me and Zeke are going to get drinks so I'm leaving her with Christina.

After about fifteen minutes when I get a knock on the door, I go and answer and see Christina,
"Hey Chris!" I say she smiles and says,
"Hey Four!"
"She's right on the couch, watching television." She says alright and when she goes past me into my apartment, she says,
"Hey girrrrrrl!" With her arms out to the side wanting a hug, making Èclair scream,
"Chrissy!!!!!!!!" I laugh, she's so good with Èclair. I start down the hallway down to the pit where I'm meeting Zeke. On the way there I turn down a sharp corner and bump into someone walking the opposite way,
"Oh sorry!" I say without looking back. Then I feel something clamp onto my wrist, I stop walking and look back confused, and then I see her. Tris.

"Tobias," she says. I stand there staring at her in utter shock.
"How- when-" I sputter. She breathily laughs and says,
"There's a lot of explaining to do."

We go the Chasm, where no one is around and we sit where we first kissed. I am having trouble speaking so I let her.
"Tobias.. I know this is so upfront but something happened." I just look at her most likely in awe and wait for her continue.
"I was in the bureau and I got shot, obviously. But I woke up in a hospital bed. Nita was taking care of me when she got Matthew to come see me and tell me what the hell was going on. Apparently, when I got shot I went into a coma for a week, and after you left for Chicago I awoke. David was immediately executed. I was really confused when I first woke up because I was looking for you, for Uriah, Christina, Zeke, Shauna..." she finishes at last and looks at me. I still say nothing and just look at her wondering if she's real.
"Tobias... please." she looks at me pleadingly. All I manage to do is lightly touch her cheek and I prove to myself that she is, real. I sigh while smiling , relieved and pull her into a hug laughing into her shoulder lightly. 
"I'm so happy you're okay, I thought I failed you." I say. I feel her relax in my arms and she tucks her head in my shoulder. I pull back after a bit and look her in the eyes, cupping her face and then I kiss her. I can feel myself falling in love all over again. I missed this. I missed her.
