---------Abhi
I really don't want to go to this pointless senior year party. Having to get suited up for such a trivial matter of becoming a senior bothers me. The only reason I am actually going is cause of Janet. She claims she has a huge dance performance and she wants me to support her by showing up. I think I like Janet...but I'm not entirely sure anymore. We've been in a relationship for a year but I feel as if I'm recognizing her true qualities only now. These true qualities aren't exactly positive. She is constantly begging for attention and she's just so self centered. It's as if I'm the only one in this relationship and she's too focused on herself. However Im still going to this party only for her.
Once I'm ready, I head downstairs to grab my shoes. As I'm wearing them, I hear Amaan's car honk on my driveway. I grab my keys and walk out of the house.
"Amaan! Lets go on the Beamer today."
"Alright, Abhi."
I sat in the car and waited for Amaan to park his car and get into my passenger seat.
"Are your parents cool with it?"
He asked while breathing heavily.
"Yeah my dad handed me the keys in the morning."
I put the keys in the ignition and activated the engine.
Amaan connected my phone and increased the volume, blasting Sonnentanz.
We made our way to the Radisson Blue Hotel for the party. I start searching for parking, swerving through different lanes. Amaan sat on the edge of his seat, keeping a look out for parking. I was just about to turn into the lane on my right before I noticed an empty parking space straight ahead of me. I sped up and Amaan instantly slammed his back against the chair.
I parked and laughed at the state Amaan was in. His crisp button up shirt had many creases now and he held his back in pain.
"It's not funny, you're such a dick!" He exclaimed while laughing himself.
"I think it was hilarious."
We got out of the car laughing at each other.
I shut my door and looked ahead to see two girls in a white Volkswagen beetle. I connected my eyes with the girl driving. A jolt instantly rushed through my body as we kept our eyes fixated upon each other. I noticed how her eyes squinted a bit and that she held a glare. I raised my eyebrows in question to why she was upset. She only intensified her glare in response. I snapped out of my trance and raised my right hand to wave at her while smiling slightly. In response I only hear her engine roar and watch as she reverses and drives away from me.
"Uhh okay." I furrow my eyebrows in confusion, place my hands in my pockets and turn to Amaan.
"Have you ever seen that girl in school cause I don't think I have?"
"I don't know man. But they were just about to turn in and park before you sped up and claimed the spot. Their car instantly halted to a stop but it was a terrible brake. You could have cause an accident if she hadn't stopped in time. "
Shit. Nice going, Abhi.
---------- Anaya
I made my way into the ball room and noticed that my friends Saad, Nooreen, Dom, and Eleanor had sat on a table near the dance floor.
They ran over once they spotted us walk in. Saad turned to me after hugging Aleyna.
He pursed his lips and smiled with his eyebrows raised,
"You look beautiful."
I smiled and winked in return.
"Thank you, you don't look too bad yourself."
He smirked and held my hand, leading me to our table.
I sat down and realised that my chair was situated so that I had a perfect view of everyone.
I glanced around the room and saw Abhi approaching a large table, surrounded by a lot of people.
I kept my eyes on him and observed how all the girls seemed to scoot towards him. I watched as he listened patiently to his friend, Amaan, while occasionally pitching in his own share of words followed by laughter.
My eyes widened once he glanced up and saw me staring right at him. The corners of his eyes crinkled and he grinned slightly. I kept my eyes fixated upon his with my mouth slightly open as he held me in a trance.
However I turned to Saad immediately once he called my name.
He held my hand and moved a strand of my hair away from my face.
"You must be nervous.."
I smiled slightly and shrugged,
"I am slightly but the main thought right now is to get the appetizer."
He chuckled and punched me lightly on my shoulder,
"You're such a fatass."
I glared at him,
"I have my priorities.."
He laughed,
"You'll be fine tonight cause I know you will do it perfectly."
I hugged Saad instantly and thanked him. We've been friends for twelve years now through our parents friendship. He's always been there for me in every moment of hardship, happiness and sadnesses. I don't think I could ever be as confident as I am without him. He leads me to make the right choices and helps me face the consequences of the wrong ones.
"Anaya! I think our turn to perform is about to come. Mrs. Jolene is asking for us to get on the dance floor."
I let go of Saad and follow Aleyna. We ran onto the sides of the wooden floor. I stood in front of Janet and heard her chuckle.
"Make sure you don't mess it up for all of us."
I chuckled and glanced back at her weirdly.
I look straight ahead at Aleyna and smile slightly.
Luke, our class president, starts to hype the crowd with the announcement of our performance.
My heart beats excessively caused by the anxiety rushing through my veins.
I take a deep breath and push myself upon the dance floor.
I raise my eyes upon the audience and they settle upon Abhi. He stood in the front with his hands in his pockets. He smiled to one side and held up his thumb as a sign for good luck. I was about to smile in response before I noticed that Janet stood beside me. I looked down and fixed my ghagra's pleats, realizing the gesture was meant for Janet. The song started and I heard the crowd scream in excitement.
