It all started with a bear attack. Dumb, right? I know. But there was something off about it. We don't get many bear attacks here in Florida, so do you blame me for being suspicious of it?
I stepped onto my porch and grabbed the newspaper. I was wearing my pajamas still, but I wasn't planning on going anywhere that day. I walked back to my couch where I had a cup of ice on the side table. It was early summer and it was scorching. All of my air conditioners were on and I had fans just about everywhere. I got a mouthful of the crushed ice and opened the newspaper.
Another bear attack? This is the fourth one this month... I read further and discovered she had died due to the bear attack.

             Walk With Caution!
Lucy Collins was killed last night due to a bear attack. She was out hiking with her friend May Johnson when she was attacked. Please, if you are out walking, even if you are with a large group of people, be careful and cautious.

I stared at the paper. "It just doesn't seem right... Bears usually don't just attack unless they're mothers..." I said aloud. The ice in my mouth had melted and left me feeling cooled down. I pulled out my phone and began to research bears. I was correct. They would've included if it was a mother bear. They didn't include any information. I doubt anybody even saw the bear. If only Lucy had lived to tell the story...
My doorbell rang suddenly, making me jump. I wasn't expecting guests. I opened my door and saw my best friend Iris Erikkson. Her last name is Swedish. She actually is Swedish, just without the accent. "Hey Bree." Iris calls me Bree because apparently it's too difficult for her to add one short syllable.
"Hey Iris." I say, opening the door wider for her. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to check on you. I know your plan to investigate, Brea. Please don't."
"How could you possibly know that?" I say, knowing she's foiled my plan. "I haven't told anyone."
"My friend senses were tingling. I know you like doing things like that. That, and I was just guessing, and you just told me, so HAHA!" She threw her fist into the air victoriously.
"Damn it..." I grumbled. I just gave away my plan.
"But, I know I can't stop you, so all I ask is that you let me come along." Iris grins her toothy grin. Her blue eyes twinkled at me.
"Fine... But you don't join in on the dangerous parts."
"Deal. We drive my new car. I've been dying to try it."
I chuckle. "Deal. We leave tomorrow. I'm going to have to get a hotel for us." The attacks had been several miles away. "You want to stay and look at hotels?"
"Sure." We looked at hotels for a while, then decided Iris was going to sleepover, so we drove her to her place so she could pack.

Iris walked out of the bathroom, her brown hair wet. She was wearing blue pajama shorts and a white tank top. I had showered before her. "Nice shower." She wriggled her eyebrows at me.
"Why, thank you." I smile. I brush my hand over my brown hair to see if it was still wet. Yep. "You know, I'm thinking of getting a dog. It's been lonely ever since the accident..." I feel a pang of sadness at the thought of Zelda.
     "Miniature dachshund?"
"You know it." I grin. I'm obsessed with miniature dachshunds. So what? Sue me.
"So, what exactly do you think is going on?" Iris asked, sitting down in my computer chair.
"I don't think it's a bear. But we're going to have to break some rules and go see the area and investigate."
      "What else?"
"We gotta ask some questions." I've always had a brain for this stuff.
"Do you think... Do you think we're dealing with a murderer?"
I stay silent for a minute. "Yes." My eyes glaze over.
"Oh Bree..." Iris walks over to me and sits down. "If it's a murderer, I promise we'll get them." Iris is the only one I've told about what happened. It's a difficult subject for me to talk about. People don't understand.
"I'm fine... It's just hard to cope with. But I'll be fine." I offer her a smile.
     "Promise?"
"Promise." After that, we took our minds off the bear attacks and watched a movie.
Around 2:00 am, we were laying next to each other ready to fall asleep. "Night Iris." I said sleepily.
"Night Bree." Iris said and flashed me that world famous smile. Her eyes drooped shut slowly. My eyes began to weigh a million pounds, so I closed them. I was excited for tomorrow.

Hey guys <3
So I'm writing this along with Hero High, so I am going to have to balance these out. I wanted to write a more serious book, because Hero High isn't all that serious. Oh, you should totally go read that if you like DC and/or MARVEL.

I hope you enjoyed the first part and I will immediately begin a new chapter.
Until then, I hope you have an amazing day, and everything goes perfectly!
Bye Lovelies! <3
