6:30 am, August 17th.

Melody felt a finger poke her arm. She turned around on her bed and opened her eyes. Zane was kneeling by her bed, smiling tiredly at her.

"Five more minutes," She mumbled, pulling the sheets over her head.

"Alright, but it's the first day you begin school. I thought you'd be more excited." Zane sighed dramatically. Melody's eyes went wide and she gasped, throwing up the covers.

"First day?!" Melody pushed Zane out of her room so she could change into her school uniform.

"Breakfast is ready when you are!" Zane called through the door with a light chuckle.

For the rest of the summer, things had been very calm. Zane and Aphmau were still dating, Melody had prepared for the next school year, as she was nervous about it. She had never been to school. She had seen the whole school and memorized some of it's layout at orientation, but it didn't help. For one, she had no friends. No friends meant she would have to either be alone, or make new ones. Melody was uncertain about it.

Melody quickly got out of the 1-zy that Aphmau had given her and got into her freshly pressed white uniform top and khaki skirt. She put on the shorts underneath her skirt, as Zane refused her to go to school in such a short skirt. Then she put on her knee-high socks and black flats. She took her hairbrush and the detangler and fixed her bed head.

While before, Melody had been a tall, skin and bones girl when she was rescued, now she had grown some muscle and fat on her bones that now she was now a healthy young girl. She was fit and eating right. She liked how she looked. It made Zane happy, so she was happy, too.

Once Melody's hair was shining and smooth, she skipped out of the room and planted herself on the dining room chair in front of a slightly steaming plate of scrambled eggs and waffles drowned in maple syrup, a couple sausages sat next to them. She ate quickly, but not too fast, and once in awhile, taking a drink of milk. After she ate, she washed her face and checked that everything was in her bag.

"New Notebooks? Check. Pencils? Check. Binder? Check. Extra notebook paper? Check. Required reading book? Check. Journal? Check. Yes! Papa! I'm ready!" She called excitedly, zipping up her purple backpack and pulling it onto her back. Zane came out from the main bathroom and slipped on his converse sneakers.

" 'Kay kiddo, Let's go!"

Zane twirled the keys slightly on his fingers, leading them to the car and driving to Melody's new school. Halfway there, nerves struck Melody's heart. She started to second guess herself. What if no one likes me? Am I gonna be alone? Oh no!

"Mel? What's wrong? You look as pale as I used to," Zane asked, looking at her for a brief second from the rear view mirror. She looked down. "Uh oh. I know that look. Sweetheart, everyone's gonna love you! Don't worry! But if anyone picks on you, you tell Mrs. Matilda immediately. Oh! Her son is in your class, I believe. I forget his name, but I'm sure he'll be your friend, if not anyone else. Oh, we're here." Zane pulled into the school, parked, and turned around to look at Melody sympathetically. "Love you sweetheart. Want me to walk you up to the school?"

Melody quickly nodded and unbuckled her seat belt. She opened the door, got out, then grabbed her school bag, and closed the door. She grabbed Zane's hand and held on tight. He squeezed it slightly and they walked to the school yard where all of the students were waiting for the school day to start. Zane stopped by the fountain and knelt down to be eye level with Melody, and lifted her chin to have her look at him.

"Hey, where's that beautiful smile?" Zane asked, making Melody smile slightly. "There we are. The five star smile! Have a wonderful day today, okay? I'll be here to pick you up at three. I love you, Mel." Zane planted a kiss on Melody's forehead. Melody hugged Zane, burying her face in his sweater.
