We walked down to the village and all I got were stares of disgust. The villagers looked at me with fear, and all the other people who had started a life here, had gotten their swords out, ready for a fight. Steve went to do the same, but I stopped him. "If we're gonna prove that we're not here to hurt them, then we have to walk in without our weapons drawn." I told him. He looked at me like I was crazy, but he put his sword away.
"H-hello sirs, I am the mayor of this town, Mayor Braveheart, how may I help you?"
I started to speak, before Steve cut me off, "Well, for starters, you can put your weapons away. We're not gonna hurt you."
The mayor shook his head, "My appolagies sir, but I'm afraid we can't do that."
"Why not?" I asked before Steve could respond.
He looked at me with an icy stare. "Ever since the attack of all these creatures, and people, we've been forced to keep our guard up with strangers."
"People have been attacking you? Why?"
He shrugged. "Honestly, I don't know. We think they want to steal our town jewel, but we're not sure." I thought for a moment. "Where are you from, and who are you. Better yet, what are you?" He asked pointing to me.
"Oh, I'm Brine, and this is Steve." I said pointing to Steve who waved. "We're from the lab up on the hill over there." I finished jabbing my thumb over my shoulder.
The mayor and townsfolk eyed Steve and I down. Steve looked around and grabbed the handle of his weapon. I stared at the mayor, I gave no sign that I was here to harm them, or that I was afraid.
The mayor laughed. "Your telling me, that you are from Mojang? You two are the projects that Notch was working on? You two are the ones that will protect our town?" I nodded, still keeping my eyes on him. He slowly stopped laughing. He was quiet for a moment. "If you can really protect us, then prove it."
"How?" Steve asked cautiously.
"If you two can take down the two strongest men in our town, without killing them, then I will belive you, and you can help us fight tonight. If you fail, then you will have to leave, or die."
Steve stepped back. "I accept your challenge." I said with my head high and my voice calm and steady.
"Very well, we will see you in ten minutes. Come prepared."
"Brine, we can't take on some townsfolk, that's not right." Steve said after the town went their separate ways. Some were talking about the battle. Others, we're giving me looks of fear and disgust.
I looked at him, he seemed like he was gonna do his best to talk me out of my decision. "Then what is? If we don't fight then how will we prove ourselves to the world? We're not gonna kill them, just fight."
"What if they kill us?"
"They won't."
"What makes you so sure."
"Steve, when have I ever been sure of anything?" He stared at me. "If I keep thinking like you do, I'll never get anywhere. If I think I can beat them, then I'm gonna beat them." I stated.
He sighed. "Fine, I'll fight them."
I slapped him on the back. "That's the sprit, now, let's go get ready."
~~Timeskip, brought to you by....cake....~~
We stood before the men we were about to fight. The one in front of me was tall. He had a red shirt and blue jeans. He looked ready to kill. The man in front of Steve was shorter than the other man. He had on the same thing that the other man wore. "Don't worry little man. I won't hurt you to bad."
