The sun was setting as Timothy Longman walked back alone in the dark isolated street. Timothy was a tall, lanky, skinny boy. He wasn’t skinny and tall because of his smart handsomeness, it was because he hardly got anything to eat. A lot of days he would strive to find food in the streets but it was harder than he thought. He belonged to a farmers family and is disliked by his family. He also has a small younger brother who is as ragged as him but unusually handsome.
So Timothy had thought today was his special day as he had found two half peeled bananas and with an unbelievable luck a small tiny piece of chocolate. He couldn’t believe his destiny today. His day had started with nothing to eat as the cows hadn’t given milk today and then on the way to school he had unexpectedly found the core of an apple. Although the core was only worth eating one or two bites. It was so unexpected for Timothy. Timothy had thought of it as good luck. Then the most surprising thing that Timothy could ever imagine happened. Timothy’s worst enemy Cain Clive HAD BROKEN HIS LEG TODAY. Although Cain was Timothy's worst enemy, Timothy could never have imagined such a thing to happen. He had thought it was a joke when he first heard Pansy talking to all her friends frowning, but then he realised it was true as Cain was absent during register time.
He couldn’t believe his luck today . All day he was pinching himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. He had never had such a peaceful day in his school life ever before. He really had thought it was his special day today and now he had found two half peeled bananas and a piece of chocolate. He couldn’t wait to tell his brother Jeremy now and share his assuming treasure.
“ouch”he said as he had just stumbled over a-
“OVER A COIN” he had cried out in joy. He had never found a coin in his life before. He picked the coin up eagerly examining it carefully. It was a rusty golden bronze colour. He wiped the dust off carefully and looked around for the person who had dropped it. However no one was around. He examined the coin again he had never really seen a coin before, in his own hands. His parent never really trusted him with anything not even to the bit in milking the cows. They told him that they have become unlucky ever since Timothy's been born. Therefore Timothy had never seen happiness in his life before. However now he had no time to think about the past. He was still busy analysing the coin. He thought something was missing but couldn’t figure out what. Just then he remembered that coins have a quantity but this coin didn’t have a number on it. He stood there thinking about it for a long time, he thought of showing it to his parents but then he thought what if they took it. He wanted to keep this coin for something special he didn’t know what but just the thought of keeping a coin gave him pleasure. He didn’t know what to do but he thought he would rather find the mystery of the coin then keep it for no reason.
So off Timothy went continuing his journey home. He was so delighted he couldn’t express his feelings however he smiled all the way home. When he got there Jeremy was already back. He was sitting beside the fire with a notepad in his hand. His parents were sorting sticks out. This was the best opportunity he thought. He ran to his mother putting his long stick arms around her. He was so overjoyed he forgot that his mother wouldn’t approve him hugging her, and so she didn’t. She screamed
“oy stop it titch”
“sorry ma, look look ma don’t get angry, look what I found”Timothy protested eagerly and for a second his heart beat a skip. His mum was actually interested in the coin but then suddenly she threw it away! He could hear the coin clanking with the other milk pots. His mother screeched
“what you trying prove boy, by bringing me a piece of metal hay!”Timothy didn’t like that he dissented
“THIS IS NOT A METAL MA, ITS A COIN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD- A COIN MA”Timothy protested. He was quite bewildered after saying that as he had never spoken to his mother like that before. From the corner of his eyes he could see that Jeremy was now standing up and his mothers eyes widened. His dad screamed
“DO NOT TALK TO YOUR MA LIKE THAT”
“yes but don’t you understand this is something different”Timothy exclaimed, but no one heard, hisparents marched off angrily and then so did Timothy after taking the coin again. He went to the basement clutching the coin tightly in his fists. He sat on the straws ignoring the cows and chicken. He didn’t know why he had spoken like that before;nothing made sense to him right now except thinking about what this coin really was! As then Jeremy entered, he sat down pondering over Timothy. Jeremy was an understanding boy his parents always encouraged him and had hope in him unlike Timothy. Timothy ignored him for a long time until Jeremy finally spoke
“wow Timothy I never knew you were so courageous”
but Timothy didn’t reply.
“Oh come in Timothy get over it look here, look I heard Cain wasn’t in school today.” Jeremy said and that made Timothy started. He told Jeremy everything as excitement washed over him once again. He thought he couldn’t spoil his lucky day,and so he put the coin back in his pocket and shared his food with Jeremy. Both brothers talked to each other as night fully set.
The next morning after Timothy had got ready to go to school he got no milk today, it wasn’t because the cows hadn’t given milk it was because his parents were angry at him. Whenever he saw them remorse fell over him and then he starts to ponder over the coin once more. This went on for a lot of days (but none of those days became lucky again). However on one of these days Timothy had had enough he threw the coin in the straws of the cows. He did this because he thought this was the reason he had become upset a lot of times before. He threw it away assuming this was a metal after all and that he was just being stupid by keeping it and causing more quarrels.
Over the next few days nothing made him feel better, he just couldn’t stop thinking about the metal he presumed. However the next day in school something startling happened. It completely flabbergasted Timothy as he heard Toby and his rest of the gang talking about a bronze coin, and how powerful it was, on the contrary they also said that the cops were after it as it was in their town. Timothy thought this was it this is what the special thing is about the coin, and he just couldn’t resist asking Toby. So off he went at lunch time to ask Toby. Toby and his gangs weren’t famous at all. Nobody hardly ever talked to them. They were considered as scum’s however Toby was very intelligent. As soon as Timothy asked Toby, looked very suspicious but told him everything about it he explained
“This coin was made in Manhattan and was illegally exported to UK and apparently could be lying anywhere in our village as the man hid it here before being arrested. It could be lying anywhere.”
“but why is is bringing this coin illegal then” Timothy questioned eagerly as he was very befuddled.
“This is no ordinary coin” he said.
“this coin has a chip in it that can go into your mind and can change your thoughts completely. The USA government want to use it to change thinking of prisoners and for good reasons, but other people are exporting it illegally to rule everyone.” Timothy got so excited after hearing this, his adrenaline was jolting up, he questioned Toby
“does the coin have a quantity on it?” Toby looked so leery after hearing this, but then thought why would this unearthly person have it so he replied
“no it doesn’t. My dad is on a mission for it. It is worth 10 billion” he finished. After hearing this Timothy ran back ignoring the questions being shot back at him.
He went home and searched through the straws but the coin wasn’t there. Half of the straws were eaten but the coin wasn’t there. He searched and searched but couldn’t find it. He bunked school for two days in order to coin but then lost hope after that. Every body thought he had gone mad until one day he had an idea. He thought if the cows have ate the straws then they could have ate the coin as well. As soon as he had the theory he went and cut up the cow in the middle of the night; got the coin out of the wild intestines and then handed it over to the police. After all of this hard work he got a reward of 10 billion pounds. He couldn’t believe his luck indeed he had been lucky on that day! And henceforth he was never unlucky AGAIN!
