Marie stood under the front patio of the school. It was nearly night. Just on the twinge of twilight. The campus was empty and she was probably here by herself. Anyone could come out and do anything to her and she wouldn't see it coming. A chill ran up and down her spine. She rubbed her arms for warmth.
It was raining cats and dogs, the day she needed to get home, urgently.
She sighed.
"Why today of all days?" She thought.
Behind her the door swung open. A blond boy came through.
Not who she wanted.
"Where was Anna when I need her?"
Anna, her best friend, had promised her a ride home. But Anna was no where in sight.
She sighed again.
"Mom is going to kill me."
But the rain wasn't going to kill her mood.
Her life took a turn for the good. So many good things happened in one day.
She had just gotten a call from NASA to come and have an interview for a replacement astronomer. How perfect!
The Administration National Aeronautics and Space had just called her for an interview. She was bubbling with joy. Then her sister had been just released from hospital after four years. The pneumonia had just suddenly disappeared. Not a trace was found!
Then her mom got promoted and her boss had ,literally out of no where, given her a new house. It was too good to be true.
Now they could move out of the broken down apartment into a new home, where they didn't have to worry about the roof caving on them. Or the small house flooding them out. Or thieves trying to steal the little money they had left. They would all be safe and happy.
And one more thing she couldn't stop smiling about was the fact she had finally broken up with Nathan.
He had treated her so badly. Calling her names, pushing her around, beating her. Then he said he was sorry and he loved her.
But she never fell for his apologies. But it wasn't always like this. He used to treat her well. Like she was a princess. Then it all changed. She couldn't do it anymore. It all had to stop. She didn't need her heart ripped out twice. Once was enough. Once by her father. He abused them. All three of them. But she loved her father. Especially when he would treat them or give them money.
Then it all changed. He got stressed with work and started drinking, and that was it. She could still her mother's screams...
But now everything was good and she was ready for what the world brought her way.
She looked to left and saw the blond standing beside her. He looked a bit angry. He looked at her.
She gave him her best winning smile.
His eyes softened and he smiled back. His eyes were green with specks of yellow. They were so beautiful she could have gotten loss in them.
His smile warmed her a bit and her smile widened."Hi." she said shyly.
"Hi."
His voice was deep, low and full with power. She then felt safe."What in the world got into you, Marie?" She asked herself.
She held his gaze and he held hers. She couldn't have looked away if she wanted to.
It seemed like minutes passed by. She just couldn't look away. The bulb blew out over head. Darkness swept over her and the chill returned.
"Crap."
The boy sounded close.
