In This Together

Chapter 26

Percy 

I rested my head on the side of Annabeth's bed. She was still unconscious. This is all my fault. If I had just waited until we got home to feel the baby kick, they would both be safe and sound, in bed with me, at camp. 

The heart monitor that was attached to Annabeth started making weird noises then it stopped altogether. My eyes grew wide in horror as I heard a alarm start to go off. "Doctor! Doctor! Please come save her! Please!" I yelled. "I love you, Wise Girl. Don't leave me. Please don't leave me. I can't live without you. Please don't leave me. I love you!" I rambled nonstop. Then I was pushed into the hall by some doctors and all I could do was wait. 

I sat in a chair across from the door. Annabeth was still in critical condition. Then I felt somebody's hand on my shoulder. It was Poseidon. "D-dad?" I wiped away the tears that were on my cheeks, hoping he hadn't seen them. 

"It's ok Percy, even the mightiest heroes have to cry sometimes," he sad gently.

"Dad, she is dying and it's all my fault! I don't know what I would do if she wasn't alive. I wouldn't be alive right now if it wasn't for her. We have been on quests of all kinds, been through Tartarus, survived high school, and now this- this baby, all together." 

"I know Percy. I came to reassure you that us gods are doing everything in our power to keep Hades from taking her. Well, all of us but Athena. She would rather have her daughter dead than to be starting a family with a son of mine. Idiot niece." 

"But it's her daughter! She definitely deserves the 'Mother of the Year' award." 

Poseidon chuckled at my response. "Yes, well, I just came to tell you we are doing all that we can to keep her with you. I can't make any promises though. Now I must leave, and you must go greet your friends. 11 have come to comfort you." 

"11?" I asked, puzzled. He nodded. 

"Ok. Jason, Piper, Hazel, Frank, Nico, I guess Will, Leo, Calypso, Chiron, and I assume Argus is driving. But that is only 10. Who is the last one?" 

"Young one, only 37 minutes old, he goes by the name of Jack Samuel Valdez."

I quickly went to the lobby and met my friends. Hazel ran up and hugged me while Calypso, Leo and little Jack, who had little dark tufts of hair, were taken to a room by a nurse. Will and Nico sat down on one of the sofas. Piper and Jason came over to where me, Hazel, and Frank were standing. 

"Are you ok? Your face is all scratched up!" Hazel said as she released me. I nodded. 

"Annabeth got most of the damage." 

Hazel gasped, "is the baby ok?" She asked sympathetically. 

"I don't know how either of them are right now. I just, I don't know. Poseidon visited and said that all of the gods but Athena were trying to convince Hades to let her stay, you know how he is with his underworldling things, he doesn't like to give up the chance of getting another. In this case he'd get two." 

Hazel nodded again and hugged me. This time Frank, Jason, and Piper joined her. After a few minutes a nurse came out. "Annabeth Chase's family?"

 I stepped forward and said, "yes? I'm Percy Jackson, the father of the baby she is carrying." The nurse nodded in understanding. 

"Well, Mr Jackson, your girlfriend is going to be fine." I sighed in relief then another thought hit me. 

"And the baby?"

I held my breath, waiting for her to answer. 

"Your daughter will be fine." The nurse said, smiling. I sighed in relief.

 "Can I see Annabeth?" I asked. 

"Of course! I'll come get you when she is ready." I nodded and thanked her. 

"Did she say daughter?" Piper asked as soon as I sat down. 

I smiled and nodded. "We were going to tell you guys but then this happened!" 

"Well what are you going to name her?!?!?" Piper asked excitedly. 

"That, my friend, is a surprise." I smirked. 

She gasped and pouted. "Fine." She said. I smiled. 

Then Leo walked in, smiling that big goofy smile of his. "Well? How is my nephew?" Jason asked him. 

"They are both fine! She is feeding him. She made me leave." He said. 

"Why? It's not like you've never seen her before." I said, slightly surprised. 

"She is very old fashioned." He said with a laugh. 

"Yeah no kidding!" Jason said, "You won't make me leave right Pipes? I mean that's like 10 years from now but still." 

I watched Piper's reaction. "So you are actually planning on marrying me and starting a family with me?" She asked,excitement creeping into her voice. He nodded, a slight blush on his cheeks. 

"That's so sweet!" She hugged him. 

"Ah! Jiper moment! Fanboying right now!" Leo said, fanning his face. We all laughed.

The nurse came back and led me to Annabeth's room. She was awake. She looked over at me. "P-percy?" She said horsely. 

I quickly walked over to her and knelt beside her. I held her hand in mine. "I'm here, I'm here Wise Girl." 

She sat up a little. I could tell she wanted me to hold her. I gently held her against my chest. "I'm here. I'm here Wise Girl. We're together. As long as we're together everything will work out." 

"As long as we are together, Seaweed Brain." 

I tilted her chin up and kissed her.
