Alex walked along the canal bank, his clothes tattered from the barbed wire. He had known it would be dangerous to have tried to escape the Fence, but he had survived, so it didn't really matter anymore. But, the part he was most happiest about was that Jack had escaped with him. They could remain to stay together, just as they had managed to all through out their eighteen years of life.
"Hey Jack?" Alex asked, looking to his left. As he watched his best fried walk beside him, he couldn't help but smile. Jack was tall and lanky, but to his face, he still held a bit of baby fat, which made him all the more cuter to look at. Jack's hair was a chocolate brown colour, and his eyes a dark shade of blue, like an ocean in a thundering storm.
Alex was practically the complete opposite to Jack. He could just pass for average height, and had blonde hair that ended in curls at his shoulders. His skin was tanned, where as Jack's was pale and porcelain, like a dolls.
"Hm?" Jack replied bluntly, his eyes almost dark as he walked across the bank, both hands dug deep in his pockets. It was obvious he was deep in thought, something obviously playing on his mind.
And it worked, in a way. Jack suddenly seemed to be shook awake from his thoughts, and gave Alex a small, reasuring smile, although Alex knew it was fake, just from the way the smile never really lifted, nor did his eyes sparkle like they usually did when Jack was truly happy. Alex pondered on what could be wrong. Jack was barely ever so...bland. "Don't you think it's going to be great? Now that we're free. No more tasks, no more fighting eachother... Just doing whatever we like." Alex said, trying to take on an uplifting tone.
"Sure, Al. It'll be great. Now we just need to find somewhere to stay before the Bronze's come looking. We both know we'll be in trouble if we get caught." Jack explained, despite Alex already knowing this disturbing fact.
Alex nodded, and squinted as he looked into the distance, holding one hand above his eyes as the sunset cast bright oranges and dull yellows across the sky, which would soon be coloured a charcoal black that would be so dark that only the brightest stars would be able to light it up.
Jack realised this, and decided it would be best to tae on a quicker pace. He grabbed Alex gently by his upper arm and started running, encouraging Alex to follow.
