- Oh, my God! – William said between teeth, slaping his own forehead with his right hand – It was just what I needed to happen!

- What's going on? – asked Jessica, lying down and sleepy in the passenger seat.

- What do you think just happened?

- Another flat tyre, honey!

- I wish it was the four tyres!

- And what is worse than four flat tyres? – she turned on the seat with her back to her husband.

- And don't you have any idea of what it is?

- Are we lost, honey?

- Oh, how smart you are! It is it, but...

- And when was the time we didn't get lost, honey?

- How funny! – he said grimacing at her – It's even worse. I know you can't imagine what it is.

- Spit it out, love... – she yawned and scratched her head with her left hand.

- We are... – Man, she'll go crazy, he thought. Here we go... – We are running out of gas...

She sat a little shocked and looked around with eyes wide open.

- What do you mean by we are running out of gas? – her tone was so high that if William had crystal eardrums, it would be the end.

- Well, run out, baby! – he said softly with a half-smile – Dried! Damn!

- I can't believe it, Will! – she was really mad. Jessica only call him like that when she is very, very angry.

- You know I hate when you call me that. – he said still trying to keep control of the situation – which it was a lie – and hating his wife in that moment because she called him Will.

- When we were about to get into de car, in that gas station, I asked if you had put gas, right?

- Yeah, but...

- But what?

- I thought we had enough to reach our destination.

- Thought?

- I was sure that it was enough!

-Ah, you thought... – she said angry – William, you lied to me!

- I didn't lie! – exclaimed – I just thought we had enough gas.

- What now, love? – she looked in all directions and just saw trees, lots of bush and nothing more than a dirt road completely empty.

- Beats me! Hell! – said, already agitated.

Jessica stared at William's angry face with her pretty green eyes.

- What?

- Nothing, dear!

- You know very well how much I hate when you look at me like if you were accusing me. You seem to blame me for everything bad that happens in our lives.

- Calm down, okay? I'm not accusing or blaming you!

- So, what?

- You are nervous. I hate when you are like that because you throw you anger on me, and i have nothing to do with your situation!

Jessica broke into tears. It started with a hiccup that, soon, became a flood, like the fall of a large waterfall. And, in the middle of nowhere, the silence was the only presence. William, crestfallen and apparently feeling regret, allowed her to cry for some more time. Only then, he let his arm slip down to hug her.
