I groaned in frustration, as I smelt the hair burning.
"Charlotte, is this really necessary?" I asked with a hint of pleading in my voice.
"YES! You're going to be perfect when I'm done with you!" She said as she pulled me up off of my chair and shoved a handful of clothes at me.
"You can wear this to your job, I won't have you going like that." She wrinkled her nose and looked me up and down dismissing my plain loose clothes with a wave as she giggled and pushed me forcefully into her private bathroom.
I looked around at the expensive looking bathroom, praying to god I wouldn't be clumsy and break something.
Glancing through the pile half heartedly I found a pair of ripped blue jean shorts and a lighter blue, tight t-shirt. It wasn't anything I had ever expected to come out of Charlotte's closet, but I put it on anyway. After pulling on the shirt I looked in the full size mirror, blown away by what I saw. The blue shirt hugged each and every one of my curves, making me look way skinnier than I actually was. The shorts, although shorter than I would usually wear, accentuated my butt.
After gathering courage I walked out of the bathroom to face a waiting Charlotte.
Immediately she screamed. "Oh my goodness, you look SO good!"
I felt the blush rising to my cheeks. "Thanks," I replied, "But next time, I can get ready myself."
Once again she waved me away with her hand saying, "I know you like being beautified by me, just admit it."
A few loud chimes sounded around the house. I jumped while my mind processed what that meant.
"Oh! Charlotte! I'm going to be late!" I ran around, throwing my things in my bag.
She smiled at me, obviously not realizing my rush. "You can keep the clothes, I've never worn them before in my life."
I thanked her quickly and ran out of her bedroom.
I heard her voice from behind me again. "Tiana, wait!" Turning around, I saw Charlotte holding a huge stack of money.
"I know you're a great cook." She said, while walking towards me, "Can you cater my nineteenth birthday?" she said shoving the money at me. "This should cover it, shouldn't it? Please Tia, I have so many important people coming, and daddy is trying to hire some random caterer. I can't risk serving them terrible food. Please, you have to help me!"
I flipped through the pile of money, barely believing it. I looked at her, trying to wrap my head around the amount of cash I was holding, my future, and college. My dad's dreams and mine could very well become a reality. "Y-yes. This should be more... more than enough."
She squealed and threw her hands around my neck. "Thank GOD Tia, you have NO IDEA!!"
I smiled at her. "No problem."

At the restaurant I brought out a families meal when a boy ran in. He slid into a booth the furthest away from the windows and looked around wildly. I assumed he wanted to be alone, but as my job required I walked over to him.
"Hello, what can I get for you?" I smiled politely.
He looked me up and down and then frowned. "Can I just sit here and not have anything?" The boy, around my age, had a pleading look in his eye.
As much as I wanted to say yes that would be a violation of our policy. "Um, I wish you could but I can't let you do that."
He swore under his breath and I winced as I hoped none of the children heard it.
