Anna's POV

I wake up the next morning because my phone is ringing. I reach out to my bedside table and grab the device. I look at the screen: Liam. I quickly press the answer button.

"Liam, what's up?" I ask.

"Anna, do you remember I pick you up to go to school every morning?" Liam asks.

"Yeah, of course I remember, why?" I reply.

"Because I've been waiting in front of your house for the past ten minutes and you're still not here." He replies sarcastically.

"Oh, shit, what time is it?" I say, sitting up properly and swinging my legs out of bed.

"School starts in 15 minutes." He replies.

"I'll be there in two. Sorry, Li." I apologize before ending the call.

I quickly fix my clothes, since I'm late and I hadn't bothered to change out of them yesterday. I put my hair into a messy bun and put the books I need today into my bag. Then I run downstairs into the kitchen, grab an apple and run back into the hallway. I slip into my shoes and open the front door.

"Bye mom, bye dad!" I yell and then I slam the door shut behind me.

I quickly get into Liam's car.

"I'm so sorry, Li. I forgot to set my alarm yesterday." I apologize.

"Sometimes you'd think you'd forget your butt if it wasn't attached to you." He jokes.

I slap his shoulder.

"Liam, stop. I'm not that bad." I say, a smile playing on my lips.

Liam looks at me like he wants to say 'yeah sure, if you say so'. I slap his shoulder once more and take a bite out of my apple.

The rest of the ride is spent in silence, except from the sound of me eating my apple and the soft sound of the music playing on the radio.

We arrive at school about 5 minutes later. I grab my bag and get out of the car. Liam does the same and locks his vehicle. We join sides in front of the car and walk to the entrance of the school together.

"Liam, Anna, over here!" Jessie calls when we walk into the school.

Jessie and Sam are waiting by our lockers. We switched with other students so our lockers could be next to one another.

Liam and I get to our lockers and Jessie greets me with a hug while Sam says a simple hi. When Jessie releases me again, I open my locker and stuff the books I don't need until lunch in there.

"You ready for Chemistry today?" Sam asks me.

"Um, no, not really. I didn't have the motivation to do any of my homework yesterday, so I'm probably screwed." I answer him.

"I see a detention coming for you." Liam smirks at me.

"Maybe, I don't really care actually." I tell him, but deep down I know I do care.

"Ooohh, we've got a badass over here." Jessie teases with her singsong voice.

I shrug and shut my locker. That's when the bell rings, signalling we have to get to our first class. Sam and I both walk to Chemistry. We walk into the classroom and take our seats in the middle of the right row. I put my bag on my table and Sam and I engage in conversation.

The teacher walks into the room shortly after.

"Quiet everyone! Grab your books, I'm going to check if everyone has done their homework." He says.

"What, he never does that!" I whisper-yell at Sam, while I grab my book from my bag.

Slowly, the teacher makes his way towards us. I look around and see several students feverishly trying to copy the homework from their neighbours.

"And how about you, Ms. Greenleaf?" The teacher asks.

"I didn't do it, sir." I reply.

"Then that's detention for you too." He says before moving on to the people behind us.

"Shit." I mutter.

"And if I hear you say something like that again, it's a whole week of detention, Ms Geenleaf." He warns.

Sam chuckles beside me.

"Stop it, Sam. It's not funny." I say.

"Actually, it's very funny." Sam says, laughing a bit louder now.

I slap his shoulder and look down at my book grumpily.

"Aww, don't be grumpy now, Anna." Sam laughs.

"I can be grumpy if I want to. You're not my mom." I say.

"No, you're right about that. You know why? Because I'm a guy." Sam smirks at me.

"Ugh. Why am I friends with you again?" I ask, more to myself than to him.

"Because you know you like it." He replies, wiggling his eyebrows at me.

"Sam, I wasn't talking to you." I say.

"So? You asked something and I replied. Or are you saying that you talk to yourself?" He teases.

"I'm just not going to talk to you anymore." I tell him.

"I think you just did." He says.

I open my mouth to reply again, but change my mind. I close my mouth and just look down at my book.

By now, the teacher has make his way through the whole class.

"Okay! I've checked everyone's notebook, and I am NOT happy with the results. I'm going to give you guys homework and if it's not finished tomorrow, you're going to have a whole two months of detention waiting for you." He tells us.

After he's threatened us, he summons us to start doing the homework. I sigh and read the first question.

"Anna, are you still not talking to me?" Sam asks.

"Fuck off, Sam. You know you're annoying me." I reply.

"Ms. Greenleaf, what did you say?" The teacher asks.

"Uh, nothing?" I say, even though it comes out more as a question.

"I'm really sure I heard you say something. I warned you. That's a week of detention for you." He says.

"Sh..." I'm about to say, but I cut myself off, before I get even more detention.

The rest of the day, all I can do is dread the two hours after classes. This is partly because my friends can't stop making so called jokes about it. All they do is tease me about it. I'm sick of it pretty quickly, so I try to ignore them most of the time, which works pretty well. They just joke over my head anyway.

After a long day of this, the two hours I've dreaded have arrived.
