Chapter 1

This is a story of a girl who finds out that the world has more to offer her. This is my story. My name is Emma Bronzen and I was born 16 years, 22 days, 7 hours ago. I go to Wilson High in Dover, DE and live with Carol, my mom, although I never call her that. My role in this world is the role of a normal, messed up, sophomore.

It was the last Monday in August. Yes, of all days it was Monday. It was a sunny and cloudless morning in Dover. It was your typical Monday morning. Not yet over the weekend, dragging yourself out of bed, doing everything at the last minute before you manage to get yourself out the door and at school on time. But that day was different. When I got downstairs Carol was smiling at me like I just won an Oscar or something. I asked her what happened and her smile disappeared. She pointed toward the door with a serious look on her face. Ok that was weird, I thought to myself as I grabbed my bag and walked out. There sitting in the driveway was a red convertible VW Bug. I dropped my bag so shocked to even move. Then reality came back to me with a slam. I jumped and shrieked with joy. I was yelling 'Omigod!' a thousand times as I turned around and hugged Carol. The smile returned and she pointed toward the car again. I turn and see it roar to life as a very happy Lisa turns the key inside. Lisa Baker is 16, has dirty blonde hair with green-blue eyes that seem to match everything she wears, and she is my best friend. She gets out and I ran over to her and squeezed her tight, lifting her off the ground. She makes a choking sound and I drop her grabbing my bag and running into my car, closing the door to let the smell sink in. This is mine, all mine. I think as Lisa climbs in beside me and I pull out.
