Prologue

"Next is Ella West!"

A young girl with bright blue eyes and waist-length fiery red hair makes her way slowly to the center of the stage. Taking a deep breath, she exhales into the microphone saying, "I will be singing Gretchen am Spinnrade by Schubert."

She nods to the accompanist who starts playing the intricate spinning notes and the young girl starts to sing. The melody and tenor of the song escapes from her small frame with spirit and passion. The heartbreaking story is sung with such heart and compassion, anyone listening, could believe that Gretchen was in the room singing her own sad tale.

In the back of the auditorium, a man listens, enthralled. He had been walking by when he heard the melodic notes escaping from the auditorium and reaching his ears. Not only is he in rapture with the voice that is so affecting, but also with the beauty producing those magical sounds. She stands meekly on display, but as an oxymoron, her voice commands attention.

The song ends, and the girl offers a small smile to the judges who thank her adamantly. The man's jaw slowly closes and then clenches in determination as a deep desire radiates through his stormy blue eyes and he makes his way out of the auditorium at the same time the girl makes her way off stage.
