"Kris," as I head into school Jasmine calls me over.
As I headed over to her group, they all look up at once and were obviously gossiping about something. "Hey."
Breaking me into the conversation, Jasmine is the first one to speak to me. "Did you hear that the new transfer student started last week?"
I shake my head, "No I didn't."
"Of course not, but if you came to school more often you might have known." Even though Jasmine was younger and shorter than me at only 5'6" and 17 years old she always treated me like her son. She was constantly condemning me for my poor absence and was always checking up on me to see if I was sick or just generally skipping school. Although it does get tiresome at times, it is always a nice feeling to know there is someone who cares about you.
Mocking false insultment I put my hand up to my chest, "How can you say that. You act like I don't have the best atten-."
Smacking me in the back of the head she cuts me short, "That's because you don't, actually you might have the worst in the school."
"Ha."
"Anyway," she grabs my head bringing me in closer. "She is the strangest girl I have ever seen in my life. She wears all black and only sits in the back of the class by herself; it's said that if you talk to her, you will be cursed with bad luck for the rest of your life."
"That's ridiculous"
"I don't know," Terry, another student, leans into the circle to give his idea on the statement. "I believe it; as a matter of fact, when she walks near me I swear it feels like the room gets twenty degrees colder."
"Yea, yea, yea." Leaving the circle, I can feel their stares piercing the back of my head.
As I open the door to the classroom, Jasmine screams out to me, "I'm telling you, bad luck for the rest of the life."
As I walk into the room, I see everyone huddled into a corner. Grabbing the first person I see, I spin him around to find out the reason for this tension, "what's going on?"
The shivering guy is unable to speak, but he merely points a quivering finger towards the girl sitting in the back of the room. Pushing him back into the blob of students, I decide to head to towards this mysterious person, "This is just ridiculous."
Leaning over the girl's desk, I give her a nice smile. "Hi, my name is Kris."
Looking up, I finally get a good look at her and she looks exquisite. With her thick figure, she had black hair that was fighting its way down her back. Her eyes were of a light-brown coffee coloring which compliments her dark brown skin.
As she stares at me without saying a word, I continue to try to keep our one-sided conversation going, "What's your name?"
Completely ignoring me, she lays her head back down to continue her pre-class nap.
"See I told you," Jasmine appears out of nowhere and pulls me back into the blob of students. "She is so weird."
"You are so brave." Stepping out of the crowd, Steve looks at me with an appearance of admiration on his face, "To talk to that girl, even with all the bad luck she brings. I wish that I could have more courage similar to yours."
Getting aggravated with the crowd, the lack of patience starts to show in my voice. "What are you talking about?"
Steve leans toward me, in order to speak in a low voice. "It is said that if you talk to her, you will become cursed with a week's worth of bad luck."
