The sirens echoed. War war, and more war. What the heck am I doing here anyway? Wasting my life on a battlefield? Pretending like I actually care? It's not like we're going to win. I mean, radioactive aliens that infect you in your sleep? And acid spewing forth from rodents' mouths? I'm not safe. And back home I know Iris isn't safe. Wouldn't it be easier just to give in? Into the acid, into the puppet master aliens? It'd be so easy, just to help them win. Just to let go, and build our army? To destroy these pathetic- Hold up. What the heck am I thinking anyway?! I will not let Iris die. I have to fight. For her sake, and for mine. I refuse to perish. "Hey Ash are you ready to fight? It's looking pretty nasty." I thought. "Yeah, I am. Heck with it. Who cares if I freaking die. I'm a speck in the universe of our kind."  Josh looked at me like I was insane. "Wel, hello Shakespeare, you got a little poetic there." Oh crap. Embarrassment flooded my face. "I'm just playing with ya bro, come on. You all charged up?" "Yeah." He gave me a friendly smile and a shove as we walked out of the tent. And for the first time in mons I smiled. But who knew it'd be my last?
