She stood there, her light wavy brown hair over her shoulders, her green eyes not making contact with his. She kept them on the ground, not daring to look into the face of someone she had forgotten, or hoped to forget. He looked at her, his blonde shaggy hair almost making its way to his amber eyes. "Why..?" She finally spoke up, still keeping her eyes down, looking at her black high tops. He looked at her, just wanting to hug her but at the same time wanting to hide away from her. "Why what?" He didn't understand, what had he done wrong? "Why have you come back, after all this time. You were my friend, my closest friend. And then you left just like that. And now you're back..." She couldn't hold back her words, the boy she loved, could still love, her closest friend in college, coming back three years later, it was just too much for her to understand. But he now understood what she meant. He had left, but she didn't know why. She couldn't know why, he didn't know how to tell her, didn't know if he could tell her. Didn't know how she would react.

"Oh..." She finally let her eyes wander up to his face, seeing the face of him, finding the same look in his eyes she had in hers for him all that time ago, she was ready to break down, right here. He began back up again, "I'm sorry I left... I shouldn't have, not without telling you anything about it. But I'm back now. And this time I'm not leaving, not when I can see that you remember me." She laughed slightly, a laugh with no humor, a cold laugh, laced with sorrow. "Remember? How could I ever forget you?" She said this to him, no emotion apparent on her face, no emotion in her voice. Only a void, as if something was missing.

He inched closer, looking at her, actually looking at her. She hadn't changed that much. Her hair was now longer, past her waist. Her tan skin was the same color as when he last saw her. He noticed the sparkle in her eyes, the happiness, seem to be gone. She was her, but an entirely different person. "I'm sorry." It was all he could say to her, the words the only thing to be able to explain his complex feelings, two simple words, yet so very intricate emotions and words behind them. She looked up at him, seeing his face look like it did, he looked like it was hurting him to see her like this, for it was. He loved her, his feelings only stronger now he saw her here. She couldn't help but give him a small smile, a reassuring one, but a smile with no happiness on her side. "It's in the past, it is done, it can't be changed. If anything I'm sorry." He was confused, didn't understand why she was apologizing. "Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything." She looked down for a moment, only to look back up at him, a slight smile plastered on her face, "Nothing. Never mind." He didn't ask any questions, didn't think anything of it.

Later that day, she packed up her things, she got into her car, getting everything in her trunk. Starting the engine, she took a deep breath, and broke down. She let her tears roll down, didn't care anymore. she took a deep breathe, closed her eyes, and stayed in her car, running the engine, letting it. she opened her eyes and turned on her phone, wiping the tears from her face. She stared at her background. A picture of a girl, wavy light brown hair to her chest, a smile on her face, a sparkle in her eyes. A boy, shaggy hair and dancing eyes. She turned it off, and began to drive into the night. Leaving the place behind, wanting one thing and one thing alone.
