4) Karate Lessons And Creepy People
Zoey held me as my tears ran down my eyes like a rain shower down from the sky. Eventually I got myself together and stopped crying, but my face was still red and puffy from it. I wasn't usually like this, honestly most of the time I felt crying was a vulnerability and a weakness. But today, usually wasn't the case.
I got my backpack and everything, getting ready for me and Zoey to walk home. Normally I wouldn't think that walking home at night was a good idea well, because it's really not. It was the only option Zoey and I had though, because she left her car and I don't have a car of my own yet. Damn.
As we walked outed we were greeted with a harsh wind that sent chills down my spine. The sky was black and filled with clouds that overshadowed the late September moon, it was creepy to say the least. "Great" I murmured sarcastically, but Zoey probably didn't hear it because she didn't comment further.
Our steps made a loud click-clacking sound on the hard pavement below, but it didn't matter to me at that moment, as I saw something pass the corner of my eye. I swiveled my head around again and stopped completely, turning my body towards where I saw the figure. Nothing was there.
I blew out a breath of relief, one that I didn't realize I was holding and ran my fingers through my Ebony hair. The click-clacking from in front of me (that I soon realized was Zoey) stopped and she called out for me "Come on Renora we don't have all day!" she cupped her hands to her mouth and shouted.
My eyes widened, and I ran up to her and pulled on her sleeve for her attention "What we're you thinking!" I hissed as quietly as I could to her "You know how many creepy rapists, muggers, and serial killers could have heard you? Are you insane?!" She rolled her eyes at me and re-adjusted the black purse that hung from her shoulder.
"Oh please, we'll be fine. Besides, if any one of those creepy people catches us, I know karate." she said making a chopping motion with her hand. Now it was due time to roll my eyes at her and scoff mockingly.
"Zoey, you took three classes when you were twelve and then decided to call quits. Oh, and I think you sounded somewhere along the lines of 'Oh that class is just too boring! You do nothing all class except sit around and sweat like pigs'" I imitated her and chuckled.
She stuck her tongue out at me and slapped the back at my head, then we started to laugh not so quietly. Another laugh started to accompany ours, it was deep and menacing, sending chills down my spine. At that moment I grabbed Zoey and started to pick up the speed, and by picking up the speed I meant haul ass toward our houses.
She gave me a panicked look because she too heard the deep chuckling. I reassured her and told her not to look back. Nothing ever good happens when you look back, especially in horror movies. We finally got to Zoeys house and caught our breath, whoever or whatever that was, I did not want to meet them any time soon.
"Are you okay?" I asked Zoey, though she didn't look like she was paying attention, she was staring into nothing. She snapped out of it and looked at me flustered "What- Me? Oh, yeah I'm fine. Are you alright Renora? You look pretty pale." I nodded and rubbed my hands together to ward away the cold, there was a moment of silence between me and Zoey before it broke.
"What-No who, who was that? Whoever he is, he was fucking creepy." She shivered uncontrollably and I found myself asking the same question. The only thing I saw out of the corner of my eye was a flash of white, and that could mean anything. I gave a mental huff of frustration and decided not to linger on those thoughts.
I started walking toward my house but a hand was placed on my shoulder "Where are you going Nora?" I turned and faced Zoey and gave her a dull expression "To my house, where else would I be going at this ungodly hour?" I said to her, she raised an eyebrow at my and placed a hand on her hip, trying to look sassy.
"Are you fucking serious Nora? There's god knows what out there and you are going walk all the way to your house? Why don't you just stay at my house for the night?" I rolled my eyes at her. "Look mother, My house is two and a half blocks away, I think I'll be able to handle it by myself" I said and crossed my arms over my chest.
Zoey yelled in frustration and started tugging at some of her golden locks "Fine" She said "but you are calling me when you get home. If you don't call me in fifteen minutes I swear to God Rennie I am calling the police." She gave in and glared at me, I couldn't help the sly smirk that overtook my lips, I winked slyly at her and started walking the other direction.
I thought about listening to music for a second, but thought better of it. I mean I really shouldn't risk that walking the street at night, not to mention all alone. I hummed a song in my mind and kept my footsteps to match the songs beat. I saw a flickering streetlamp and saw something standing under the near-dead light of it.
A person? A man? I looked at him and stared at his outfit, his back was face me, he had a white dirtied, patchy, hoodie- Wait white? Isn't that what I saw a couple minutes ago...a flash of white... I decided to turn around and take another route when I heard a deep menacing laughter. The man-or whoever he was, had tilted his head back and laughed.
"I know that your here mia dolce, Do not try to hide from me." He said,he had a deep and menacing voice, but at the same time It was light and airy, like I was somehow amusing him. I took a step back and saw something silver-ish in his hand that was glinting in the light of the lamp. A knife?!
Okay Renora, I thought to myself, you have to be smarter than the serial killer. If I go to my house he will most likely follow me there, but if I go to Zoeys house he'll know where she lives too. I suddenly got a good idea and started running-sprinting back to the police station. Lord only knows if I'll make it there in one piece or not though.
