On a warm spring day, a beautiful Spanish mare wandered away from her herd to give birth...
A few hours later, I took my first breath. It was a rather shaky one, followed by a small thud as I stumbled while taking my first steps. Eventually I managed to have some milk, It was delicious! My Mother coddled me as I was suckling, she said: "Now, now, not so fast, you'll get colic if you drink it like that." She showed me how to drink properly, "There, that's better, isn't it?" It was more of a rhetorical question but I mumbled a"Yes mmammaa" around her teat.
A few days later my mother took me to visit her herd. I met a dapple grey mare called Esprit, a palomino blanket Appaloosa mare named Coeur de Lionne, a bay mare whose name was Pomme de Pin (Pine cone) and her chestnut foal Flame.  As mama walked up to Pomme, I hid behind her, wary of this unknown mare, but I needn't fear. She had huge, kind-looking, brown eyes, that went strait to the bottom of my heart, instantly dissolving my initial fear. From behind her right foreleg, a little brown ear, followed by another, then a shock of darker coloured brown mane, and slowly a whole head.  It's little face wore a confused expression, but with an undertone of delight. Cautiously I stepped forward, arching my neck and leaning forward, trying to get our muzzles to touch. But before I could succeed, I felt presence behind me, and a large shadow fell on my flank. Slowly, I turned around and was met by the biggest horse I had ever seen...
When I saw him my face fell, he was huge, intimidating and he scared me. My eyes went wide in fear. He looked at me with jet black eyes that screamed 'Leader, Power,Danger' then, when he saw me shy those eyes became soft and loving. I leaned forward and we touched noses, he breathed on me and I knew he was going to protect me...
