.:Jared's Perspective:.

The next morning was easier than expected. My hangover wasn't actually too bad; in actual fact, I was fully refreshed, and dying to smell the wonderful aroma, and drink the wonderful taste that is coffee. I slowly unravelled the thin sheets from my fully-clothed body, and stepped over the snoring doormats that is Tomo and Shannon.

I tiptoed quietly to the kitchen, and started to hunt for a coffee machine. I opened all of the cupboards, all of the drawers, and even the fridge. I frowned slightly. How can they not have a coffee machine? The easiest way to make the drink, and they don't have it?

“Aspirin's in the very top cupboard” yawned a hoarse voice. I spun on my heel, and smiled at Ebony. Her skinny body was being held up by the wooden kitchen door frame, her black hair looked like a rather big mess, and her blue eyes were looking, somehow, refreshed. I smiled a little and replied,

“That's nice, but I was actually looking for your coffee machine” Ebony rolled her eyes, and started to bustle passed me. She grabbed the kettle, switched it on at the wall, a mug, and a jar with coffee grains in, and said bluntly,

“Knock yourself out” I tilted my head slightly.

“You don't have one? Why?” Ebony shrugged.

“Can't afford it. I mean, look at this place. I can't even afford things that mix and match” I looked around, taking a closer look. It was true. The couch was red, but the chair was purple, and another was wooden, with a blue cushion on it. Shannon's blanket was white, with black swirls, whereas Tomo's was just plain black. The rug was some sort design, but the floor was wooden, but not laminated flooring, more along the lines of, they were designing and they completely missed out the carpet. And along with all the other random junk, it just look like they were moving in temporarily, until they could find a better place.

“How long have you lived here?” I asked, drawing my eyes away from just that one room. Ebony thought a while before replying,

“4, 5 years” My eyes slightly widened.

“And you never thought to unpack to some of the boxes?” She smiled and just grabbed a bowl. Which, of course, was a completely different design to most of the other bowls. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and while she poured herself a bowl of Golden Nuggets, she said,

“Look, Alison and I are one-task ladies. Once we've moved in, we've moved in. We plan to sort things out, to make things go in a certain order, but we just get distracted by boyfriends, or work or whatever. We just...I don't know, we don't make life hard on ourselves, I suppose” I just nodded, and tried to figure this out. How can two people live this way? Only doing one thing at a time; only have a one dimensional life.

“What about your piano?” I asked. Ebony smiled, a small, almost sad smile.

“I can hardly play it anymore. I only get time at the store, and most of the time, by the end of the day, I'm exhausted. The amount of kids who want to be an instant rockstar is not only annoying, but tiresome.” I chuckled at this.

“But surely you must have had some practice? You won a competition, several people now want you on their record label, and now you even have me as someone to help you” Ebony nodded.

“Yes. All of that is true. But I've been playing since I was about 3. It was a distraction; escapism if you will. Look, can we talk about this later? I need to get dressed” I nodded, and replied with ease,

“Sure. We have a scheduled day ahead of us” Ebony smiled and left a bowl of half eaten cereal, just sitting there on the table.

“You gonna clean that up?” I called after her.
