You eyed the mountain of boxes from the corner of your new room, trying to decide what was in each of them. You were just getting settled into your new home that night so everything was in a shambles. You smiled though, looking past the chaos and thinking about how in this house you got a room all to yourself. No siblings to have to share with.
You began blowing up your air mattress since most of the furniture wasn't here yet except for the kitchen table and your sister's bed. Once the temporary bed was made, you began digging through boxes in search of your pajamas. You had heard Oklahoma was quite a bit warmer than Wisconsin but none of that had truly prepared you for the sweltering heat. You were astounded that even now, at night, you were still sweating like a pig! You couldn't wait to find your pajama shorts and T-shirt and throw off your current sweaty outfit.
The mountain of boxes began to dwindle as you took them down, checked the contents, and then moved them to the opposite side of the room. Eventually you found the box storing your PJs. You rejoiced by doing a tiny happy dance and throwing off your clothes. Just as you're slipping your top on, you look up and notice that not only does the window the boxes had previously been blocking face the neighbor's window, but also, the neighbor was staring at you as you undressed! You gasped, and watched as the boy's face turned a bright shade of red. You looked down at yourself, wearing only your T-shirt and undies, then back up at him and awkwardly slid yourself to the side of the window, out of his view.
Your heart raced along with your thoughts but was interrupted just moments later when you heard a knock at the door. You knew the rest of your family was already asleep so you'd have to get it. You leaned against the wall and slid down it to a sitting position, then reached out your leg across the room to grab your pajama shorts and put them on, hopefully without the neighbor boy seeing you. Once your shorts were on, you quietly scurried to the door. The old wooden door made a small squeaking sound as you opened it just enough to see the person.
"Hi..." It was the boy from the window.
"Hi?" You said back very awkwardly.
He had his hands in his pockets and couldn't seem to make eye contact with you. "Listen, I'm real sorry."
"For being a perv? You should be" You retorted.
"It wasn't me I swear! My friend Dally over here," The boy motioned.
You opened the door a crack more and saw another guy leaning on the side of your house smoking a cigarette very casually.
"He was the one spyin' on you not me. I came over just to see what he was lookin at then when I saw, well I told him that was real disrespectful and he should close the blinds since it don't look like you've got any. But then just my luck, you looked up and Dally hid and I'm real sorry." The boy rambled, nervously, only glancing up at you briefly a couple times. His face was less red now but still glowed a shade of pink.
He really did seem remorseful. And on the other hand the other guy, Dally, didn't seem to be as much. So his story could quite easily be true you thought.
"What's your name?" You asked.
"Johnny. Johnny Cade." He answered looking up at you for possibly the longest he had so far."I'm Y/N Y/L/N." You smiled. "Thanks for being honest and apologizing and everything. A lot of guys wouldn't have."
He smiled back at you. "Well, I guess I should be letting you get to sleep."
You nodded and he backed up off the porch along with his friend. "Oh!" He quickly added. "And welcome to the neighborhood!"
