•Diana POV•
the bell rang loudly throughout the halls, making me jump awake from unsuccessful attempt to nap.
school is over.
ugh.
I reluctantly grab my bag and stand up from my seat to leave. while walking outside, I watch all the people leave before me. my mind races, and the scene in front of me changed...
all of the people no longer wore hoodies and jeans, but were in elegant gowns and brown clothing. it was the way the people talked, the way they walked, I knew my mind had taken it's self to the medieval times. I looked down at myself, and my outfit had changed from jeans to a long pink dress and a crown placed on my head. I looked back up to my surroundings and the school I've come to love had changed to a large, grey castle with curved windows on every tower. the people around be bowed, as if I were queen. my eyes widened, as I stared in awe.
I looked back down and at the same moment, I saw the boy from science walk by, and my eyes snapped back to focus. the white-washed school building had appeared yet again in front of my eyes, and I no longer wore the pretty dress. I was back to the present, back to reality.
I couldn't help but smile as he ruffled his hair, and adjusted his t-shirt, not noticing me. the images of today with him replayed in my head;
the jokes, the laughs, his sad, bright blue eyes.
ahh, his eyes.
they held a undeniable saddness, and emptiness. I had assumed that something in his past made the happiness in his eyes fade into emptiness.
I wonder what....
as he walked down the side walk and up the street, I started to walk the opposite way, looking back every so often to catch one last glance of his blonde hair.
a sigh escaped my lips, as I walked up the un-familiar brick road. I had just moved from the Oregon last week, to here, California. The people who decide my future, thought I didn't belong there, not that I didn't agree. they packed me up, and sent me here without another explanation.
the brown walls of the tall building, and the smell of pumpkin bread filled my senses, as I opened the red door to West Bennington Orphanage.
yeah.
orphanage.
I walked in, to see twenty or so chairs around a huge table inside the equally as large kitchen. loud laughing, and many voices filled my ears, and I saw 10 ladies surrounded around the kitchen, gossiping some barely notching my presence. a few made an attempt to greet me, I received a few waves, smiles, and a elderly woman made her way to me in an instant.
"Diana, honey! come in come in we already have a snack made for you. how was school honey? did you meet any friends? How's your classes?" Shelby greeted me with a pile of questions, and i smiled as I took In her bright image;
her greying yellow hair was tied into a knot, and she wore a bright pink apron labeled, 'Best cook' , her brown eyes were filled with happiness and excitement as they scanned me up and down. she's the first friend I have made here in California, and though she might be nosey and demanding, she is very kind to me and I appreciate her presence. she welcomed me into the orphanage as if I was one of her own, and she will never understand how much that means to me. it feels good to have her as someone as close to a parent I've ever had.
her thin arms wrapped around me as soon as I walked in the door.
"it was good, I met a few, classes were decent," I answered while gently hugging her back.
she let go and gave me a bright smile. "a friend? how many? what's his name?"
"Shelbyyy.." I whined and walked around her grabbing a piece of the homemade pumpkin bread.
I couldn't stop my mind from drifting in to its imaginative state again, as I pictured myself eating this bread in a fancy restaurant, and the boy from science sitting across from me, his bright blue gaze watching me with a smile.
I blinked.
why am I imagining going on a date with some boy I had just made today?
it's been a long day.
"Diana?" Shelby's voice awoke me from my thoughts.
"w-what?"
"I asked you to take your stuff upstairs and come back down to set the table please."
I nodded, and made my way up to the large stair case shoving the rest of the bread into my mouth.
the long hallway was filled with 10 identical doors, and as I made my way to my room at the end of the hall, I wondered the rest of the kids were. probably at the play ground across the street with Debby, I answered my thoughts, before opening my door at the end of the hall.
a small twin-sized bed sat in the corner of the room with a baby blue sheet, followed by a old brown night stand. next to the stand, was a tall dresser, matching the night stand and bed frame. my drawings were hung up on the walls, and a few boxes from the move sat on the floor, and remained unopened.
dropping my book bag on the bed, I walked up to the white chipped window that looked over the city, and I could distantly see the ocean.
I wonder how far I could run away.
get away from reality for a day.
create adventure, and make my life worth it!
I'm getting myself to excited here, calm down Diana it's a window.
but I just want something in my reality, that's just as good as I imagine.
I want an escape.
it felt like an escape when you were with Niall today, my subconscious added, smugly.
I smacked her silent, and let my mind drift into another world....
the waves crashed against the shore, and my long pink dress touched the sand. i looked up, seeing a knight in shining armor galloping on a horse, towards me. he slid down off the horse and walked up to me, gently taking my hand in his. he lifted his mask, and familiar bright blue eyes appeared infront of me. the boy leaned in, so that our lips were inches apart, and I felt my heart skip a beat.
"Diana.." he whispered,In his cute Irish accent.
"Diana." he said his voice slowly getting louder.
"DIANA!" this time, it was no longer his adorable voice coming from his lips, but the sound of an angry Shelby calling my name from downstairs.
I snapped awake, and I appeared back in my room again.
no beach.
no dress.
no knight in shining armor.
no Niall.
just my Imagination running wild again.
and once again,
reality had ruined my life.
