The Children of the big three

Chapter 5

The day the little big three arrived in camp

Annabeth POV

Chiron told me to show the new campers around. He warned me that they were still in shock, so be gentle.

I showed them Tara's pine tree and the Athena Parthenos from 50 years ago. Tara had been revived by the Golden Fleece but it had disappeared many years ago. Luckily the borders were reinforced by the gods. The centre point was the tree. I showed them the amphitheatre, the Volleyball courts, the senate house, the armoire and forge, arts and crafts, the climbing wall (they were shocked at the lava), the canoe lake, the dining pavilion, the beach, the combat arena, the Pegasus stables, the archery range, the Hermes cabin, the strawberry fields and the woods.

"Did your parents give you anything?" I asked, pulling at the necklace Athena gave me when I arrived at camp. It turned into the dagger Luke gave me.

"Yep!" Percy said. He showed me a silver locket, a bronze pen and a silver watch (I know I said it was a bracelet but I changed my mind). "He told Mom that I had to take it with me everywhere. The rest also have things from their parents!"

Thalia showed me a lightning bolt clip and a silver link bracelet. Jason showed me a gold coin and a black cuff. Nico had a skull ring and black cuff like Jason's. Hazel had a diamond hair clip and a gold ring. Leo had a belt that blended in with his clothes and a bronze ring. All of them had an identical silver locket to Percy's.

"Since I've shown you everywhere, why don't you try to work out if those are hidden weapons?" I suggested. I had a bad feeling about their parents.

Thalia fiddled with her hair clip for a while. She hit it, tapped it and finally just took it out of her hair to get a closer look. It immediately turned into a sliver spear. A bow and quiver like the ones Artemis' hunters use appeared on her back. She touched the sapphire in the hilt and it shrank back into a hair clip and the bow disappeared. She had a hard time with her bracelet. She twisted it, tapped it, shook it, threw it against the floor and swung it round her head. Finally she hit it and it turned into a replica of the aegis, with medusa's head looking straight at me.

I screamed. My friends Piper, Frank and Reyna ran up. "Annabeth! What's wrong?" Reyna yelled before looking at Thalia's shield. "Oh my gods!" Piper yelled. "This is Thalia and Jason Grace, Percy Jackson, Nico Di Angelo, Hazel Levesque and Leo Valdez. They're new and trying to find out if the things their parents gave them before they left are weapons." I introduced them. It was actually common to have a weapon when you crossed the borders, usually concealed as Jewellery or other small things. Since our parents have been taking more notice of us, they have weekend visits, trips to Olympus during the summer solstice and other family bonding trips.

Jason rubbed his coin, hit it, tapped it and finally flipped it. It turned into an imperial gold sword. He flipped it again and it turned back into a coin. He flipped it one more time and it turned into a lance. He did the Same things as Thalia and the cuff turned into a shield.

Percy's pen turned into a celestial bronze sword when uncapped and his watch turned into a shield. He stared at them in awe.

Nico's skull ring turned into a Stygian iron sword and his cuff bracelet into a shield.

Hazel's hair pin turned into a sword that looked like a mix of imperial gold and Stygian iron. A torch of mist appeared in her hand. Her gold ring turned into a shield.

Leo's belt turned into a tool belt. He reached into the pockets, which looked empty, and pulled out a golden bow and arrows and a battle hammer. His bronze ring turned into a shield.

The silver lockets let them talk to each other. Apparently they hadn't done it before so it must have triggered when they entered camp.

I was, to put it lightly, shocked. Usually we didn't get so many weapons. I had my owl necklace and my hat, and that was enough. Piper had her hair band that turned into her dagger Katoptris and a heart charm bracelet which was her shield. Frank had an anklet which was his bow and arrows and a watch that was his spear and sword. Reyna had a pendant that was her sword and a ring that was her dagger.

"Well, it's dinner soon," Frank said. "Let's go!"

All through dinner, I looked at the new campers at the Hermes table. I had a feeling that something was... Off about them. They seemed too powerful to be out in the mortal world for so Long! I had come to camp when I was seven and had not left since, except for day trips to Manhattan once a month.

During the camp fire, Chiron announced the new arrivals. As we sang and joked and caught up with each other, the new campers started to glow.

Above Hazel's head, a large diamond with a black and gold skull carved into it was floating. Pluto. Crossed behind it were two torches. Trivia? How's this possible?

A black skull wearing a black helm wrapped in poppies and sickle behind it floated above Nico's head. Hades And Demeter?

A lightning bolt arrow being shot from a silver bow charged with electricity appeared above Thalia's head, shining in the moonlight. Artemis... and Zeus?!

An eagle with a caduceus clutched between its claws floated above Jason's head. Jupiter and Mercury, of all gods?

A sea green trident appeared above Percy's head, wrapped in the flames of the hearth behind it. Poseidon and... Hestia?!

A hammer wrapped in flames floated above Leo's head, reflecting the light of the sun floating above the hammer. Hephaestus and Apollo, not to mention a fire user?!

Gasps and whispers broke out. "No way." "The flaming hammer? That's for fire users!" "Children of the big three?" "What's the extra symbols?"

The new campers gaped up at the symbols. I honestly couldn't blame them.

The symbols eventually faded away, but the message was clear.

Chiron knelt and the campers followed his lead. I kept my head down to mask my surprise. How is this possible?

It explained why they had so many weapons and why I felt something off about them. They were so powerful.

"Hail, Thalia Grace, Daughter of Zeus, blessed by Artemis. Hail, Jason Grace, Son of Jupiter, blessed by Mercury. Hail, Leo Valdez, Son of Hephaestus, fire user, blessed by Apollo. Hail, Percy Jackson, Son of Poseidon, blessed by Hestia. Hail, Nico Di Angelo, Son of Hades, blessed by Demeter. Hail, Hazel Levesque, Daughter of Pluto, blessed by Trivia." Chiron said slowly and gravely, as he was speaking at their funeral.

The newly claimed campers looked shocked. I couldn't blame them.
