Rescuing Lily (Harry Potter/Marauders Fanfiction)

Chapter Three

"Hey Lils, could you help me with the herbology essay?" Asked James, while sitting in a cosy armchair by the fire.

"Yeah sure." Replied Lily. "What bit do you want help with?" She took her books and quills over to the fire and sat down in the armchair across from him.

"The properties of the mandrake root and it's uses. Have you done it yet?" Lily shook her head.

"Just about to start it." She informed him, he nodded. They sat there for about an hour with Lily helping James.

"James, I'm really hungry, I missed dinner because I was studying." Lily moaned, rubbing her rumbling stomach.

"How can you be studying all ready, it's the first night back!" James exclaimed in shock, Lily just glared at him. "Okay, what would you like to eat? I'll go get it for you."

"Um, please could I have some sausages and potatoes?" She asked, scratching her head, her eyes drooped a little.

"Yeah sure, wait there." And with that, James left.

Five minutes later, James returned with a plate of sausages and potatoes and also a bowl of ice cream.

"Thank you so much James, I was starving." She grinned, taking the food from him.

"No problem Lily, anytime." He replied. He smiled as she started stuffing herself with food. He loved watching her eat. She noticed him staring and wondered why he was watching her eat with such a mental grin on his face, then she smiled back. This is definitely my year thought James. After she had finished, she yawned.

"Lily, do you want to go to bed?" Asked James, worried about how tired she looked.

"Yeah, the first Day back has been hard." She replied, standing up from her armchair and stretching. "Night night."

"Night Lils, have a good sleep and I'll see you tomorrow." He gave her a small wave.

"Thank you James, you've been really nice today." She said seriously. She wondered whether she'd been wrong about James this whole time.

"No problem! And yeah, I've matured I guess." Then he smiled and she returned it. "Night night, see you tomorrow."

"Night James," she yawned and strolled into her room, closing the heavy door behind her. He likes me she thought, almost clapping her hands in excitement. James smiled to himself. She likes me he thought, grinning, before he headed to his own room to sleep.

The next morning, Lily woke up smiling. Why am I smiling? She thought, and then she remembered, she and James were friends now! She went over to the shower, undressed, and stepped under the hot water. She loved the feel over the water flowing over her. Then she heard a knock.

"Hey Lils, do you want to go to breakfast?" She heard James say.

"Wait a minute, I'm just getting out of the shower now." She replied. She quickly got out and dried. She used the hair-drying spell as she hated her hair wet. Then she walked over to her wardrobe, got her robes out and quickly changed into them. She unlocked her door and was greeted by a smiling James.

"Hey Lily, good sleep?" He asked.

"Yeah, thanks." She answered. James was grinning. "Hey, why are you grinning? What have you done this time?"

"Nothing, nothing, I'm just happy that we're friends now." He said. Then she smiled.

"Yeah, me too." And with that they walked out of their common room and down to the great hall.

"Prongs!" Shouted Sirius from halfway across the room.

"Padfoot keep it down or I might have to give you a detention." Said James looking serious. Then they both burst into a fit of laughter.

"Hey Prongs, the full moon is in a few nights. We need to figure out how to get out now that you've got you're own common room with Lily." Said Remus.

"Yeah I've been thinking about that as well, any ideas padfoot?" Replied James. The reason they were sneaking out on a full moon was because Remus was a werewolf, and James, Sirius and Peter were all un-registered animagi to help Remus with what they called his 'furry little problem'. Even thought Remus thought this made him sound like he had a rabbit with issues, it was one of the ways in which they could discuss it without the risk of being overheard. James was a stag so they called him Prongs, Sirius was a big black dog so they called him Padfoot, and Peter was a rat so they called him Wormtail. Since Remus was a werewolf, they nicknamed him Moony.

"Hmmm I'm not sure, you could use the cloak to come to gryffindor common room, we could sneak out then?" Said Remus.

"Yeah, we'll do that. Now if you don't mind Scarlett is coming and I need to talk to her." Said Sirius while eyeing up Scarlett who had just entered the Great Hall.
