The coldness of the hard floor in Rosie's room pressed against Dale's face, forcing him to regain his wits, and to ecperience a throbbing headache. Stars swam in front of his eyes making his vision blurry, and attempting to stand only got him an E-ticket ride back down to the floor.

Crawling into the hallway on his hands and knees, instinct warned him to stay level with the floor in case he lost consciousness again. It took him ten minutes to arrive at the dayroom as his walkie-talkie blared, Joslin's voice becoming a fresh form of induced torture.

Sitting back on his haunches just out of nurse Joslin's field of vision, his left hand reaching to the waistband of his pants, Dale paused before pressing the talk button. After a minute, Dale held it down.

"Yeah, Dale here.", he groaned.

"What took you so long? I've been paging for five minutes.", she asked.

"Fighting off the new girl and that trouble maker. They caught me from behind.", Dale said lying through his teeth.

After rolling her eyes she gave an exasperated sigh. "Well the guy claims you were smacking around the new girl.", raising her left eyebrow and fixing him with a glare.

"He's a fargin liar! I have a daughter about her age. No way I'd do anything like that.", Dale retorted in his defence. Little did anyone know he had abused his own daughter in the past.

Nurse Joslin finally took his words as true, not wanting to believe otherwise. She assumed that would just be rocking the boat of which she was also a crew member.

"Well after tonght it won't make any difference one way or the other. ", she reported, glancing at the doctor's notes on their charts.

"Oh yeah, and why is that?", Dale asked.

"Just trust me. After treatment, they won't be making trouble for anyone.", Joslin said with a wicked grin as she stared in Justin's direction.

Justin looked from Dale, to Joslin and then to Rosie saying, "I don't know about you, but I have a bad feeling."

Rosie just stood there, using her peripheral vision. She could see Justin from her left eye and Joslin from her right, depending on the focus of her attention.

The look on Justin's face made her feel very, very scared. Something bad was going to happen, there was nothing she could do about it, and something told her no one else was going to help her.

Nurse Joslin readied a hypodermic with Rosie's injection of thorazine, placing it in a tray on the counter, and made a notation on her chart. She doubled the previous days dosage, secretly hoping it would put the girl in a coma, making it easier for the hospital to collect money from Rosie's disability check without having to lift a finger to provide special care.

Now standing up, Dale walked over to Rosie who shied away from him. He waited for Joslin to bring the injection over, which was the next thing she did as if on queue.

As Dale held her in a reverse bear hug, nurse Joslin came over and gave Rosie the shot. Down she went out like a light, although not as deeply unconscious as Joslin had hoped for.

Justin was so concerned about Rosie, he had failed to see Dale reach for him nect. Another injection was given but this time to Justin and collapsing to the floor he couldn't help but think, neither he nor Rosie were going to wake up again.

Dale picked up Justin like a rag doll, practically throwing him onto a gurney, which Joslin had wheeled in from the outer hallway. Quickly leaving the day room, she came back with a second one for Dale to put Rosie on.

Returning to her station, nurse Joslin rang the doctor, letting him know his patients were ready for their treatments. She was humming to herself as she walked into Rosie's room to go through her things to see what she could steal. She thought the girl would return to her room without the capacity to ever fight back again.

Joslin had no idea how wrong she was... ,.
