By Morning's Light

"Hey, Graff, wake up."

"Why," I muttered, fighting to stay asleep. I had never been a morning person and I was sure it was too early.

"You should see this."

"I can't, I'm sleeping."

I didn't expect that response to work, but Edwin didn't protest, in fact he didn't respond at all. I turned over and let myself drift to sleep, but curiosity and concern dragged me right back out.

"Fine," I said, sitting up and opening my eyes. "What is it?"

"Just that."

What Edwin was pointing to was something I did not recognize, at least not at first. On the horizon was a towering spire bathed in a soft white glow. There was only one thing it could be as only Moonlight Spire was that tall, but I had never seen the landmark like that before. Built many years ago as a testament to interracial unity, it stood dead center to the world. It was the tallest structure in the world, and its existence was only possible due to collaboration of the best craftsmen from each race.

"We're at Council City already!?"

"Already!?" he said, also in surprise. "We lost a day due to those damn Imperials; I was making good time too."

"Wait, what? How long was I sleeping?"

"Two and a half days." His response was candid, almost as if he expected this of me; granted, I have been know to sleep for weeks after being awake for months. "You really shouldn't push you're body so hard, most of us only have the one."

"I don't know... I guess I just keep losing track of time."

By that time, the sun had fully risen, and Council City was back to how I always remember seeing it. Bold and modest always seems to come to mind. Of course there was Moonlight Spire, but every other building of the place was far more plain. The city was designed to appeal to all races' culture with some compromise, so the buildings there end up being rather simple and reserved.
