The room was luminous. The bright lights were the cause of my sudden burst to consciousness. Consternation gave way to vigilance. I was in a pristine white room. No, not just a room, but a padded cell. The details were vague as I tried to remember what happened. My thoughts were interrupted when someone walked in. It was two people, one male, one female. I tried to use my hands to get up but realized that I couldn’t use them. They were conveniently occupied by a straightjacket. The man, who looked like a doctor, turned to the woman, who I’m assuming was a nurse. He whispered something to her. She nodded in response and left the room, but returned swiftly, accompanied by a rather large black bag. I tried to position myself so I could hear what they were saying, or at the least, see what they were taking out of the bag. As soon as I caught a glimpse of what they had in the bag, I completely understood why they didn’t want me to see. It was filled with blood stained tools, like the kind used in surgery. But these tools were old, covered in rust and blood and who knows what else. The man whispered something along the lines of “Watch her, lock the door,” before turning to face me. He took one step and I began to cower in the corner, a look of pure terror on my face. I wanted him nowhere near me with any of the contents of that bag. The bag itself felt like evil was oozing out of its open mouth, not to mention the creepy vibe the ‘doctor’ gave off.
“There, there now. It’s okay deary. We’re just going to help you out a bit, that’s all. Fix you right on up and you’ll be just fine and dandy. Ya hear that, fine and dandy.” The woman also began to approach, still carrying the bag. She synchronized her steps with his, same pace, same stride; as if I were an animal and any sudden movement could cause me to attack. ‘Attack,’I thought. Then it hit me. All the unbearable details of what had happened. Jess, Mish, Gabe… All gone. And it was entirely my fault. If only I hadn’t pushed his buttons, maybe then they’d still be alive. If I hadn’t practically forced them to come. Everything came rushing back.
“Come on, guys. Are you really that chicken?” I taunted. I had been telling them that we should go to the asylum for weeks. “Besides Gabe, wasn’t it you who always said that we’d probably end up there once we’re 18 anyway? Let’s just go to see our future cells.”
I could see Mish starting to break; she was ready to just agree with me so that this would end. And it would, as long as I had her backing me. She’d wear out Jess and then Gabe would fear letting us go without having our ‘mature supervisor’ along with us. That’s how it always worked, or so I had thought.
“Why go now and ruin the surprise? I’d much rather wait until it’s completely necessary.” Mish said. I looked at her in utter shock, as did everyone else. Mish was normally the easiest to persuade.
“But Mish, what if it’s filthy? While we’re there, we could spruce it up a bit. Maybe even paint the walls a few different shades of pink?” That line caught her attention.
“Well, I guess it couldn’t hurt just to take a peek.” She said, still unsure of her decision.
“If Mish is in, I’m in.” Gabe spoke.
“What happened to Mr. Everything-is-a-bad-idea?” I smiled at him.
“Maybe I’m just sick of always being a hindrance in your insane plans? And besides, what’s the point of resisting you anyway? You always get what you want. I mean, that is why you’re Princess.”
The ‘doctor’ reached his hand out towards me, and I winced. “Now, now. It’s okay. I’m just going to fix you right on up, okay Princess? And afterwards, I’ll let you see your friends and your new housemates.” He smiled crookedly. The creepy vibe was intensified by 20. ‘There’s no way I’m making it out of here all fine and dandy like he claims. I have to stay alert.’ I thought to myself.
While trying my best to look and sound sweet and innocent I asked Dr. Dandy if I could get a drink of water. He looked over to the nurse and told her to take me to the kitchen. “Make her a right good meal for her. She needs the nutrition. She’s a rare case, remember, a rare case.” He stated. To me, it sounded like he needed to be the one in the straightjacket. She nodded again. “Right this way.” She said sweetly. I was lead down numerous halls and stairways before we finally arrived at our destination. It was extremely remote, so far away from the room with the wacko doctor that it actually gave me a plan, to escape. As soon as we entered the room, I began scanning it for any uncovered blades or sharp edges. I found nothing. It was completely barren. ‘Well, if I can saw my way out, I could see if maybe she’d let me out to hold my glass.’
The nurse filled a glass with ice water and set it on the counter beside me. ‘Maybe she was already planning to untie me.’ But she didn’t. She just stood there, staring at me. “Aren’t you going to drink?” She asked.
“I would, but I need hands to do that. Could you untie me?”
She shook her head. “No good. If I do that, you’ll just go running into trouble. It’s best if you just stay. Yes, yes, quite well if you just stay put.”
Okay, so that plan wasn’t gonna work. Maybe I could reason with her…
“How am I supposed to drink without hands or a straw?”
“Hmmm…” She pondered this for a moment. “I know! I’ll let on hand go, and chain you to the chair. That sounds mighty fine, right?”
“Uhhh… Yeah. Just peachy,” I said. She already had the chains out and was binding me to the chair.
'Now how am I supposed to get out of here?....'
