Alice slaps Rose again, twice. "Ow!" Rose exclaims. "Dammit Alice."
"We weren't meant to say anything!" Alice says in exasperation. "Nes, hun, you need to speak to Jake before someone" – she shoots an accusing glance at Rose – "says anything else."
"But I'm right, aren't I?" I ask. Oh my – everything is making complete sense and my earlier upset is replaced with such happiness. I cannot believe I never realised!
"Nes hold up please, you did not hear anything from us," Alice says, holding her hands up. "Jake wanted to tell you if the right time ever came up like, you know, you developing feelings for him. We shouldn't have said anything."
Alice's phone buzzes and she picks it up. "Speak of the devil," she says. "Nes go downstairs, go speak to him, but please let him speak. You haven't heard anything" – she goes to say something more but I hug both her and Rose tightly. Rose hugs me back. I don't think Rose believes she's done the wrong thing and I don't either. I was so upset and she knew it was for no reason if Jake had imprinted on me.
"Thank you both. I promise I heard nothing from neither of you," I say before bolting downstairs, bumping into Esme at the bottom of the steps.
"I was just about to get you," she says. "Jake's here. What is he doing here? Apparently Alice texted him. . ?"
I nod. "I'm sorry, I'll explain later but I need to speak to Jake."
"What's wrong?" Esme asks.
"I don't know. Everyone is acting weird and keeps saying I have to speak to him. So I am."
"Okay, we will see you later I'm assuming?" She asks. I nod and run to the front door.
I close the door behind me and grab Jake's hand, wanting to out of ear shot from the Cullen's as I can vividly imagine Alice and Rose spying out of one of the upstairs windows to hear and see what is going on. It makes me smile but, due to Alice's power being blocked thanks to the wolf in Jake, I want this little turn of events to be private.
"Nes, what's going on?" Jake asks just as I begin leading him further into the woods.
'Hold on, please' I plead through my thoughts, sending it through our interlinked hands as I lead him deeper. Just a little further. . .
I stop, hoping this is enough of a distance out of ear shot from both the Cullen property and my home. "Nes? Is everything okay? I texted you earlier but-" he begins ranting but I cannot find a way to verbally express how I feel. I look into his eyes and his words stop. He looks back at me, his gaze enchanting.
"Nes, what's-" he begins again but his words are ceased by me placing a hand on his cheek. I look into eyes for a brief moment more, lingering, before standing almost on my tip-toes to bring my lips to his. Jake doesn't hesitate at all in kissing me back. Our rhythm is in sync almost immediately and he raises both his hands to my cheeks, holding me in place. He pulls away too quickly. "Nessie, what are you doing-"
"I love you," I say immediately, cutting him off. "I have felt this way for a long time now and was so scarred to tell you."
"What made you feel different now?"
"I told mum how I felt, and she mentioned needing to talk to you and went to speak to dad. I overheard them mention an imprint and I was so upset. I was devastated."
"So that's why you didn't respond to my text," he murmurs, more to himself than to me but I find myself nodding.
"But I thought about it for a while and it just made sense that the one you imprinted on . . . well . . . was me. And by that kiss I am glad I was right and was not getting ahead of myself," I add, feeling flustered. Oh my – what if I was wrong? I did not even think about that.
"Oh Nes, how long I have waited for you to say that. I love you too. Always have and always will." Until now I didn't realise that his hands are now resting comfortably on waist, keeping me close to him and my hands on his sides.
"I didn't want to freak you out. You know how serious an imprint is and I didn't know if you felt the same way."
"You should've told me."
"Yes, I should've, but now I have. I have waited so long to be with you," he murmurs. I move my hands and wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him again. He kisses me back with such passion my head begins to spin. He pulls my body closer to his during our kiss, deepening the passion and intensity between us, causing my head to spin even more but I ignore it. When his lips leave mine now he keeps a hold of me, keeping us together.
"When did you imprint on me?" I ask, curious. He takes his arms away from my back and I take my arms from his neck. He looks worried about something, something's bothering him. "What is it?" I ask, worried.
"I imprinted on you the very first time I lied my eyes on you. But I think you should know the complete truth. Have you heard about the night you were born? How your mother died but your father venom bought her back?" he asks and I nod. "Well, when everyone thought she did die I was so upset and I promised the wolf pack that if Bella did die I would kill you as soon as I got the chance." I look at him with wide eyes and he continues. "I went back into the house and Rosalie was holding you. I had every intention of completing what I said I would but when I saw your face, how beautiful you were, I couldn't do it. Something sparked within me and I then knew what Sam said to me about imprinting. I finally understood what all of it meant. I felt that I had to protect you, with my life and protect you from any harm and dangers. So that night when Sam and the others came I fought to protect you because I knew they were going to start a war with your family. Your dad knew I imprinted on you because of course he heard my thoughts." Jake returns to the present and looks at me. His expression filled with sadness, worry and maybe even self-doubt.
He must have thought I would be angry or something but I understand. He didn't know what I would be like. I have heard about toddlers that have been changed and they are dangerous, you can't control them. Everyone thought I would be the same but I'm not. None of them ever heard of my condition before I was born. I stepped closer to him and I look straight into his eyes.
"I understand, no one knew what I was going to be like. You thought I was a threat. You didn't know."
"But if I didn't imprint on you I would've killed you."
"But you didn't. Why dwell on the past when you can't change it? We have to focus on the future, our future." He still looks angry about what he did but he looks more at ease now that I know.
