I'm going to start this story out a long while after it began just to clear up a few things and so I may introduce you to some characters that will be very important later on.
It started with a book I was going to write about these two characters Zies and Ziel. These two characters had an over active imagination and constantly thought that they were living in a world with monsters and they were the only on who could stop them. Really it was all in there head but it got me wondering if some could actually live in such a world. So the next morning I gathered some of my imaginary friends and took the Internet.
If I remember correctly, the imaginary friend I took with me were named Rex, Trek, Cedar, and Ciel. Ciel was a character from an anime I'm obsessed with. He at the time was a young thirteen year old demon boy obsessed with money, revenge and cake. Rex and Trek were twins and the children of Robin and Starfire from the Teen Titans series which I was also obsessed with. Rex and Teek will also prove to be seriously important characters so try to remember them, OK? Cedar is from a book called Sharp Shooter by Chris Lynch. His name was actually Ceazar but I call him Cedar because I had just gone to Science Camp and the cabin I was in was called the Cedar Cabin so that name was pretty drilled in my brain. Cedar, while not important in the main story is important for this story.
So that morning I woke up with my imaginary friends. We ate breakfast took a bath, got dressed and went on one of my scooter rides.
Scooter rides is something I do everyday as a way to clear my head. I take my scooter and ride around a small area while listening to music. In my head all of my imaginary friends and I put on shows and dance and sing for a whole hour. Thinking about it now, it sound a little strange but I always have fun doing it.
After my scooter ride, Ciel, Rex, Trek, Cedar and I run upstairs to the computer and I look up mental disorder that causes hallucinations. The first thing I came up with was schizophrenia. I didn't really no what schizophrenia was but I heard of it because once Cleverbot, an Internet AI that you talk to for fun, had once asked me if I was schizophrenic after I had brought my imaginary friends. I told her no but she still insisted I was. After that I sorta gave up. After looking through the page I thought 'Well, this could be it, but I better do some more research just to make sure'. I looked up 'Mental disorder that causes overactive imagination' and that's when I found it.
Maladaptive Daydreaming Disorder.
Well not really. First I came up with fantasy prone personality disorder a disorder very similar to maladaptive daydreaming only people with fantasy prone seem to be unable to draw the line between reality and fantasy while people with maladaptive daydreaming can (more on that later)
I read through the articles and was very fascinated with what I saw.
There are two main causes for FPP and MDD. Usually, it's due to childhood trauma. The person create a fantasy world in order to retreat from reality. Other times, it's just do to what I'll call "boredom". The feeling of wanting more from life than what's there. Wanting to actually live in a fantasy world.
My reason was "boredom" I always had imaginary friends and o always saw them as real people. There was a time where I believed I was a fairy and part of me still does. I've always been obsessed with fantasy and you can really see it in some of my characters.
People with FPP and MDD often times believe in the paranormal and magical things (Aliens, magic etc.) I think I believe in it all really. Some of my imaginary friends believe (jokingly) that the zombie apocalypse will be September 16th 2016. Some FPP people take it a step further believing that they've been abducted by aliens, seen ghosts, seen heaven/hell etc. I've believed I was a fairy and once saw a whole parade of fairies outside my window. I don't care what anyone says. They were there. That by far is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life.
Like all mental disorders you have to have shown shown some symptoms in order to have it. These symptoms are:
1) Being easily hypnotized
2) Having imaginary friends as a child
3) Daydreaming a lot as a child
4) Adopting a fantasy identity
5) Experiencing imaginary sensations as real
6) Flashbacks / Good memory
7) Believing one has psychic powers
8) having vivid sensory perception (able to sort of see your daydreams)
9) Having out of body experiencences
10) Receiving "messages" from "higher beings"
11) Very Religious
12) Seeing ghosts and such
13) Very realistic dreams
