Hey, y'all! Sorry for not updating this week! I've just been so busy with homework and doctor's appointments. I have yet another appointment tomorrow and lots of homework so I would not expect an update tomorrow, but to make it up to y'all, I hope to get one up on Friday! Maybe even this weekend too, if all goes well. Thanks for sticking with the story and please read, vote, comment, fan, etc. You guys are amazing!
The song mentioned is Night Train by Jason Aldean. I posted the video on the side! Check it out.
Chapter 24
Ivy’s POV
“Um,” I stuttered, looking at my dad’s stern expression. I gulped as I tried to come up with an excuse. Glancing at my bedroom door, longing to be able to escape into my safe haven, I scratched my brain for some type of reason for why I was downstairs.
“I-I heard a noise outside,” I started off. He raised an eyebrow as he waited for me to continue. “So I went downstairs to see what it was and a glass had fallen in the sink,” I said finishing my awful lie. I winced hoping he would believe me.
He sighed as he rubbed his hand across his eyes. “I don’t have time to deal with this, Ivy, so please just go to bed,” he said sounding really tired. I furrowed my eyebrows with worry as I studied his face. His eyes did not hold their normal twinkly glow and he had dark bags under his eyes from lack of sleep. I am a horrible daughter. No a horrible human being! I didn’t even notice the stress my dad was under with work.
I looked down at my feet in shame. “I’m sorry, daddy,” I said quietly. I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around him. He hugged me back and kissed the top of my head.
“Goodnight, Iv,” he said releasing me, and walking into his room, smiling as he closed the door. Sighing, I walked into my room and closed the door leaning back on it and closing my eyes. I couldn’t believe how blind I had been to the world around me this past week.
If it weren’t for my phone vibrating, I probably would have continued to stand there, criticizing myself. Walking over to my bed, I sat down and picked up my phone that was flashing with a new message. My heart sped up at the thought of a message from Michael, but I broke into a smile when I saw who sent the message.
Hey, Baby V! haven’t talked n 4ever! Hows life been treatin ya:)
I smiled at the message from my best friend, Cole. Cole had been a childhood friend. We had been instant friends from the day he walked into my first grade class and had let me borrow his red crayon, seeing as mine wasn’t sharp enough. Ever since, we had always hung out. I sometimes got along better with him then I did with my girlfriends.
I hit reply and typed back to Cole.
OMG Hi!! Im good! how r u? its been 2long. We need2hang. Free tomorrow?
Im good:) missed my V. im free tomorrow! Coffee after school? Ill drive.
I never turn down coffee! Ill c u at school tomorrow:) *yawn* night night!
Night! c u tomorrow!
Sighing in content, I set my phone on my bedside table and turned off my lamp. I snuggled down into the covers, thinking about Cole. We had grown up together going to private school, but we split off when we changed to public high schools. Now Cole’s family had moved so he was just down the street from me and he now went to my high school. We didn’t have any classes together, but we sometimes saw each other in the halls.
Rolling over, I closed my eyes and drifted off into sleep, excitement bubbling inside of me at the thought of seeing Michael in the morning and Cole in the afternoon.
