In the dark ages before man was ready to rise out of obscurity, there were still men and women living scattered across the world. Each knew their own peoples, animals, and gods, but they all shared the planet, the stars, and the night. So it came to be that before man ever became great, delegates were called for from across the world. They met in what would briefly be known as the Council of the Night, but the horrors of this meeting were sufficient that it swiftly fell into myth and troubled memory.

Ignoring the truth does not make it unreal. The Council of the Night met, and created out of themselves things both greater and lesser than normal men. They have wandered the world, each in some way, shape, or form immortal, or at least able to sustain themselves across the years. They wait, but do not say what for.

Another Council has been called twice since the original. Neither has met. Those who called each were found dead under mysterious circumstances.

There is only one vague rumor, one subtle whisper, that provides a clue as to what the Council of the Night is waiting for: their leader is not around at the moment.
