“Mum?”

“MUM!” I screamed pathetically. My lungs gave out and screeched achingly. What had just happened?

One moment we were walking along gracefully, talking about what we were going to do today, then Kaboom! What was that noise? Where did it come from? Wheres mum? I cant see!

Open your eyes Sara.

You can do it, just open your eyes now.

It was dark. My eyes were sealed closed as if coaxed by wax. I tried to move my fingers. Nothing. What happened? Why wasn’t my body responding? I flexed my mouth, realising it stung. My lips weren’t its original shape, they felt sloppy. My tongue felt loose. Mum! I felt like yelling but i knew i couldnt because of the stinging pain in my chest, as if being heart broken for the first time. A part of my body tingled; it was my left ear. My brain wouldn’t cooperate with my movements; they wouldn’t coordinate the way i wanted. It was like someone had messed with my nervous system. I flash of memory poored through me like sweat; i recountered a Human Biology class. The teacher was blabbering about something i once believed to remember but everything was buzzing and the urge to open my eyes grew stronger. I needed to see. I felt extraordinarily weak, as if i had been paralysed.

I tried with all the power i could muster to open my eyes.

Come on! Open!

Come on-

They sliced open. I screamed. Pain shot down my leg and i felt i would cry.

I must not. Crying is for the weak.

It was all a blur at first, but then everything cleared up. I could see the sky? Was that what i was looking at? No, wait. Someones face came into focus. I had tp close my eyes again. Water was rushing over my eyes and cooling me as it slithered down my temples.

“Blarr urr okarr?” I couldn’t understand. A high pitch squeel overpowered what they were trying to communicate. They put their ear near my mouth. I winced, no longer being able to bear the pain in my left leg. It felt as though i leant against a fireplace and just let it melt me.

“Wha?“ was all i managed. My lips cracked and split open as i mumbled. They were sticky and warm.

“Shes alive!”

I forced my eyes open again, encouraging myself, You can do this Sara.

I noticed four people hovering above me; as if angels sent by heaven. Wait...now there were five, six. I couldn’t tell. There were so many now; they all blared with movement, my eyes strained like when wearing someone elses prescribed glasses.

“Hpl m-“

“I know... pain...to get yo-“ I couldn’t focus on what they were saying properly. It was too much to handle. It burnt my ears; they spoke so loudly.

This is just a dream and you are going to wake up, okay Sara?

I squinted my eyes, wanting to rid myself of this pain. My heart stammered; i could feel it against my chest. A sudden sense of terror ran through to my core.

Come on...wake up!

I couldn’t get my arms to move. For that matter, i couldn’t feel them either. My chest was a firy blaze, ready to burn down my insides. I felt as though i was melting inside out. My heart battered all over the place. I felt it clamber around as if i was having a heart attack. It was pumping so fast i couldn’t breathe. The pain in my legs only radiated even more.

Mum? Are you there, in my dream. Im sure you were. Where did you go?

“Shes going into cardiac arrest!” Someone yelled. My dream was very chaotic. Why were there so many people yelling? I closed my eyes again; squinting until it went all white. I clenched my teeth until the pain seeped through, roaring at me to stop.
